Im trying to drop a little weight but still want to include some sort of treat after the day at work.

Rather than ice cream or cake or pastry I have decided to put together a tupperware of haribo starmix and jelly bears to pick on. Am I right in thinking this is a sensiblr low fat treat that stacks up well against lardy alternatives?

I also wondered whether to just eat dark chocolate as I am led to believe plain choc is not all that bad.

They may be low fat, but they're full of sugar - so won't help much.

Exactly this. Fresh fruit maybe?

Make some sugar free jelly. Don't eat sugar if you want to lose weight.

Yes the fats will be low but the sugars will be through the roof. This won't help you IMHO and could even be counter productive - but an idea as to what you eat during a normal day (with no omissions) would be a start - do you have an idea as to what a typical day consists of?

Depends. If all you eat is them then you can lose weight if you eat under your daily calorie requirements. Don't get suckered in by the "it must be healthy therefore I can eat all I want".

Also don't get suckered in by "low fat" and "fat free". It's not 1985 any more.

Many fruits are high sugar/calories. Better than sweeties and pastries, but may not be ideal. Total calories count more than macros if you're simply trying to 'lose weight'.

It staggers me how little people understand food and nutrition! Are you seriously suggesting Haribo and gummy bears as a healthy alternative?

Bears are made of meat so aren't gummy bears part of a Paleo diet? biggrin

Hello again. No I am not suggesting that jelly is healthy, just that it may be less unhealthy than a cheesecake, or a large bowl of ice cream.

I presume my question then is more one of which to avoid more, saturated fat or sugar?

My day's intake is fairly healthy but I do like a daily fix of some sort. I will typically have a bowl of cereal in the morning when I wake at 5am, a baguette around 830am, a salad based lunch with rice or cous cous and fish or chicken, then I do some cardio excercise in the afternoons followed by a god dinner in the evening. It is after dinner that my sweet tooth appears.

I've heard of people doing low carb diets before and saying that they can eat chocolate and sweets etc. but surely that means they'll be skinny with type 2 diabetes

all this proves is how many food manufacturers have conned the consumer and continue to bullst them. It's staggering an adult believes gummy bears are a diet snack
