Not in Newton but No. 7 in Torquay is amazing for fish and nearest. Alternatively the Seahorse in Dartmouth if you are prepared to travel. Mitchs place is a bit more expensive and more formal.

I would suggest my place but not for fish tonight. If you fancy something else I will ring ahead and advise accordingly!

EDIT: just saw you are looking for tonight. Without a reservation you might struggle a bit for anywhere decent. Bit limited down here LOL

Ode Cafe is nice in Shaldon, there most weeks, great lunch venue with a pint of Shaldon Shag. Tim has a fine dine place in Shaldon too, bit like dining in someone's front room but we enjoyed it.

Crab Shack in Teignmouth, they only cook what they bring in, nothing amazing, but good prices and arguably one of the best places to eat fresh fish down here IMHO

Elephant in Torquay is good if you want a fine dine experience, the brasserie is good too. I really like Simons food.

Nice pub is Cary Arms in Babbacombe, more about the view but food is good too, bit of a pita to drive too.

Gidleigh Park for a 2* experience eaten twice this year, but rather posh!

I like the Treby Arms, former Masterchef winner.

Happy to offer more suggestions, I have eaten at all the above this year.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

We ended up dining at 21TonyK's restaurant in Totnes and had a great meal. The food was good, as was the service. Definite thumbs up from us!
