There's a very high-end tapas restaurant in Madrid that focusses on high end tinned foods too. It comes from the tradition during / after WW2 when the economy was ruined and tinned food was really all there was. The tradition stuck even when times got better, and so the quality of the tins went up to match consumer spending.

After all, when you think about it Caviar comes in a tin...

IV tried raincoast tuna. Its worthy of a go.

Also, razor clams, wolf fish, monk fish, elvers, ling, fish cheeks, abelone, conch, limpets.

As IV said before, if it swims I'll eat it.
To clarify, from Tincan or elsewhere?

Elsewhere, its stuff I'm recommending he tries.

I like the concept of trying something different and applaud you for that.

Unfortunately, a good friend of mine, a London worker and dweller, who is something of an amateur foodie and is usually to be found elbowing people out of the way in order to get to the front of the queue for any new restaurant, has just tweeted "no real desire for sardines on toast for £20" in relation to this new place.
Oh well it is a shame your friend hasn't tried it and realised we don't do toast and actually there are only 3 sardines out of 28 cans that we do and it is not £20.

But everyone is entitled to their own opinion whether they are informed or not.

I guess it's a tough line to pick between keeping a bit of mystery in the hope that the curious will turn up, vs making things crystal clear to tempt people in. Some people will always fall either side of the line anyway.

Went to the site.

Realised that the address is an image and thus I can't search for it on Google Maps.

Left site never to return smile

Seriously, you might be clever design types, but your site is ste from a UX perspective. You want people to find you, don't you ?

OK, so I managed to google the address. Looks very interesting, hope it goes well.

Err, it gives the address on the site. confused

ETA - I see what you mean. Not that hard to remember the address and manually enter it though is it?

Well yes.

They haven't even made the phone number actionable, so you have to remember a bunch of numbers and type them in rather than....oh I don't know, clicking the number on your phone and it actually calling that number like pretty much every other site on the entire internet !

I don't design buildings, they shouldn't design websites.

Precisely. I always, always select the address (or postcode) text in Firefox, then right click and choose "Search Google for...". If the text is an image, and therefore not selectable, I am far less likely to open another window, switch between the two to manually type it in..etc. And that's on a desktop PC, far less than on a phone or tablet.

Seems to be well received - its a shame that we can't read more about it; its been badly marketed on here but seems very innovative and well designed.

Hoyin, stick to being creative and get a decent PR/Markteting agency on it - it sounds as though it could be a real winner - it being a 6 month pop-up you want queues out the door from Day 1!!

Yeah, it sounds great. I am going to pop over next week one lunchtime.

But the website is way too minimal for 2014. It isn't "cool" it is annoying these days.

Some on trend flat design and a "story" is what is current. Always a story. Gotta have a story.

That said, Pitt Cue are up the road from the Tin place, and that also has a rubbish website. But they had a huge following from the mobile van days and 25,000 people on twitter wanting to know where they would set up.

Its so boring when people are tardy smartarses and veils it as 'help'. Fecking boring internet fad of the moment.

This sounds interesting, I will definitely pop in! Really interested to see what this difference in quality is all about, and if it's as good as suggested it sounds like a must in the larder!

Good Luck!

The website is ste and he's making a complete arse of promoting it. I think that much is pretty clear to anyone who knows anything about websites/promoting them. Its unfair to say people are being tardy smart arses.... they're not just saying 'hey this is all crap'. They're offering suggestions as to how to fix it.

If they are not selling £50 a pop Mexican tramp food out of the back of a 1960s ambulance, I'm oot.

I'll probably pop my head in to have a look though.

Thanks for your feedback I really do appreciate it. We are totally new to this so every suggestion is gratefully appreciated.

Whilst we are promoting the shop my focus has unfortunately not been on the website.

But we are on the front page of the online Guardian.

No intention of being a smartarse.

But I tried to work out where it was, and how long it would take me to walk there. And it wasn't all that easy from the website. Which was annoying at the time.

And I had also just look at the website for Beast. Which told me even less !

They can probably get away with it as the have the whole of the Goodman group's Social Media, PR and Marketing to work with.

Anyway, little bit more info on the website, and start working on getting some more Twitter followers. Sorted.

Sorry it has taken so long. I just took a quick snap with my phone.

Will be getting a proper one on the website as soon as we can.

Can't quite make everything out on that menu but I am now quite intrigued! I'm guessing I can get a nice cold beer or wine also to wash those mackerel fillets down?

Thanks for posting that. Presumably you also allow customers to purchase the "Tincan" to take home and consume?
