What's all this bloody putting leaves in with a fishfinger sandwich? You all turned gay or veggie or something? Ketchup that's what they need...

Does anyone do the James May manlab way of doing it? I was pleasantly suprised that he managed to fit 5 of the buggers in his sandwich. I always thought 3 was the limit...
You can't have an odd number! Ideal number in sliced bread is four - they fit perfectly and you have two in each sandwich when you cut it in half.
His design was four alongside, then one along the top or bottom.
so 8/3s ( 4* 2/3s) in one half and 7/3sa the remain 4*1/3 from the four and one whole finger cross the end ?
No, like this:

exactly as i suggested then

if i could be bothered i'd attack the image in paint and drawn a line across thus QED.

I'd cut that vertically to get 2.5 per half.

No, like this:

It depends on the shape of the loaf, sometimes you can get five in side by side.
Can fit more in if you turn those that are placed North/south on its side.

Had a quick go at the weekend with a packet pizza base... Beans and cheese. Had red and brown sauce under the fish fingers. Wasn't too bad, perhaps a little dry with all the dough. Might be better if it had tomato puree more like a pizza under the fingers.

Thanks to this thread, I now have fishfingers smile See if they match up to my childhood memories.
My conclusions are that you shoudn't fry them smile

But oven baked on white bread, with way too much butter and ketchup, with a side order of chips - lovely.

Trouble with grilling them is the bread crumb tends to come of the fishfinger and stick to the grate, leaving holes of bare fish.
Not good.

I've gone oven baked on sausages now as well. Much more even cook, and leaves space in the pan for more bacon...

No, no, no... baked sausages dry out. You've must fry them in a little oil and don't prick them either. smile

Grilled, otherwise how do you get the cheese to melt all nice on the top?

and then into a sandwich with ketchup and mayonnaise (i.e. pink seafood sauce) and a little peri peri mixed in.

No one else use one of those actifry things? With the rotating arm bit removed. Heats up quickly. Has a timer so you don't have to watch it and does a decent job.

No, not if you don't have the temp too high. Drop it back to 160-170 and you get a lovely even cook on an oven banger and retain the moisture.

Thanks guys for the urge . Setting ourselves up for Friday night football , rest of the family have homemade pizza on the go whilst I'm trying "fish sticks" , they look similar to fingers and having just turned them over in the oven I can honestly say they smell delicious , looks promising .
