I need to purchase six bottles of champagne (monthly) which I use as part of my little business. The drink must be agreeable but inexpensive, I charge my customers 25 pounds a bottle, it is drank as an after wedding service toast for the bride and groom to enjoy (one bottle per wedding) prior to their onward limo journey to their reception party.

Two champagnes have caught my attention, both readily available (important)and under my 25 pounds bottle budget.

DESROCHES CHAMPAGNE (on offer at 19 pounds)

LOUIS CHAUREY (half price offer at 16 pounds)

Over to the PH'ers for considered opinions please. (very expensive champagne I only purchase to special order for customers)

Taste is very subjective. So, as they are fairly cheap, I would buy one of each and try them out before deciding.

At that price you could also consider an English sparkling wine rather than throw money at Les Frogs.

Denbies 'Whitedowns' is definitely achievable at that price, Nyetimber might be. Do a deal direct with the vineyard.

From the OP's description I get the impression that this is as much about image, as about the actual taste.

This means IMHO that it needs to be a genuine champagne (since that's what the bride and groom will probably want).

Also, you probably want one which is less well known so the markup is not obvious.

Personally I would get a Eurotunnel crossing, head to Carrefour in Calais and stock up on the best non-mainstream champagne available within the budget. If you are buying a large amount then the cost of the crossing will be vastly outweighed by the savings you are making.

Steady supply could be an issue, but does it really matter if the brand changes from time to time?

If you are really dedicated you could head to Reims and negotiate directly with the producers for a steady supply (it is just about possible to do London -> Reims and back in a day...)

Thank you for input, some good advise and food for thought. I have to bear in mind that different couples have differing budgets, the 25 pounds I think is about right with the option of requests for a more expensive bottle being available.
As we know the after service toast is just that, with photographs of the couple toasting each other in the car and so on. I'm not overly bothered about a mark-up as such but its a valid point raised that I bear in mind.
