When I say boys, I mean late 40s early 50s, obviously smile

Regular London meat-up for a group of 4 mates. Usually steak related and close to the City. We have done Goodman twice. New Street Grill. Several Hawksmoors. Bodeans. Relais De Venise. Tayyabs. Turkish. etc

So ideally meat. Lots of it, grilled. And limited salady-stuff. Bread and Chips are good.

Looking for recommendations otherwise it is Goodman again.

We do the same each year.

Most recent was Beast, which opened in May and is owned by Goodman.

It's different, but very good. http://www.beastrestaurant.co.uk/

Also, if you're really focussed only on meat, we went to JW Steakhouse earlier this year too which was excellent.

Try The Big Easy in Covent Garden. Lots of meat, good booze, not stupidly expensive: http://bigeasy.co.uk

Big Easy in Covent Garden? Good if you like massive lobsters as well.

Gaucho is good (it's the cheesy balls they bring out at the beginning that's my favorite), however I would choose Hawkesmoor. Beast is impressive and I could certainly choose that next. Big Easy a great concept though always seems to slightly miss the mark - perhaps the Covent Garden is an improvement.

Another few suggestions could be Smiths of Smithfield top floor http://www.smithsofsmithfield.co.uk/ (haven’t been in a few years but enjoyable when I was there) and here: http://www.chickenandsteak.co.uk/

Beast looks awesome. I think one of the party is anti shellfish, but what does he know smile

I work in the next street to Big Easy in CG. Can't say I was all that impressed, although may well give it another try, it was early days and the service was iffy and the food average.

I love MEATmarket, but probably need something a bit less messy.

Excellent burgers. And you've got the watering holes of Hoxton to play in afterwards (Open till 4am)

CUT at 45 Park Lane (Dorchester)

Good sharing steak. Pricier than Hawksmoor (whom I'm a big fan of), but makes a nice change

Umm. Am I being daft - I can't actually see a menu?

I know. That pissed me off too. Nonsense website.

It seems that it is £75 for ...

Hunk of Parmesan
Steak
Crab
Pud

He doesn't have to eat the shellfish if he doesn't want to. Both the steak and crab arrive on big platters at the same time and you take what you want. We wanted more steak (even though they gave us two huge cuts already) and they happily went away to make us some more free of charge!

No you're not!

The menu is a set four courses that you share - that's starter, mains (crab and beef), and dessert. It's £75 a head, and the centre pieces are the Norwegian king crab and the Nebraskan bone-in rib-eye and bone-in sirloin. The starter is interesting, and you can find it with a little Googling, but I thought it was nice that we left it as a (slightly strange) surprise. The dessert is a kind of cheesecake thing.

Value for money certainly, however the meat quality is 5/10 at best.
