Morissons have just started selling flat iron, got some yesterday, looking forward to trying it. This is best served sliced?
I must be honest, while I've done it a few times, it's been on the BBQ & served as it comes. I think it might benefit from being slower cooked & sliced, but personally I normally caveman it.

What the hell is wrong with you all? Cook your damn meat, at the very least so its dead!

Tried it rare.

It tastes how it looks. Raw meat. I just don't 'get it'!

Medium is clearly better, a fine slither of pink through the middle, job jobbed!

I don't get taking a good cut of meat and cooking it until its leather... waste of good steak and money.

Feather steak is my favourite, right up until it became known as a good steak, now its in most stores and prices have rocketed.

Jamie oliver is an Ass for telling everyone how good it is.

Hanger (onglet) for me, bags of flavour, tender, and half the price, so you can have steak twice as often.
Me too along with bavette are my current favourite cooked rare with a nice onion and wine jus. You need to slice these cuts against the grain as otherwise can be chewy.
Waitrose has bavette nowadays. Chosen well, and cooked well, it's my favourite cut.

Had this last night, really tasty. Got 2 steaks for under a fiver, think it was something like £8.99 a kilo. Decent sized steaks, had to do a little trimming to get some sinew off, only a little bit mind.
I was quite surprised by the cooking time, needed a bit longer than a ribeye to get them medium rare even though they were a fair bit thinner. Bit more of a chewy texture but only slightly, flavour was great though.

As a lad I remember chuck steak, as it was called then, being bought for home mincing by my mum. I now know why it seemed more tasty than 'mince' you buy now....

Definitely tasty, seems like more of a "darker" taste than a rump or sirloin.

EDIT: Definitely cook value for money as well.

This. Also used some hanger steak to make a Stroganoff the other night, was 25% of the price of fillet and went down well with everyone.

Ive been a rib eye fan boy for as long as i can remember. However, today that changed!

Went to Lidl to do the usual steak sweep and noticed their fillet steaks had £2 off so thought id give them a try instead of the usual rib eye. Im not sure why but ive always thought fillet to be over rated but ive just been proven wrong!

Cooked it as it suggested on the pack (well done 16mins medium heat) no messing and it turned out and tasted absolutely beautiful! Burnt on the outside yet still soft on the inside. Im now a fillet convert!

So withough further a do here's a photo of my first ever home cooked fillet....

Decided on a filet the other evening with a heathy version of mash (made with the water the potato was cooked in). Was very nice.

Its actually quite deceving. the steak was huge! There was more than enough chips, 3 of us on our table had this meal, I was the only one to eat the whole plate. most people couldnt finish there chips.
