Debate at work before, should everything be on the menu ?

Disregarding going vegetarian If not, why not ?

If you eat meat should you be happy to eat any animal.

I think that food animal is basically anything that isn't something that eats meat as meat is intensive to rear anyway without having to feed it on meat.

Pretty much happy to eat any meat.

I've ate from the local restaurants for years so probably ate a multitude of different meats anyway hehe

I agree. If you're happy to eat meat, then why be choosy about the animal (providing its fit for consumption).

I once ate in a resturant abroad, and the menu said "Beef or Mutton Curry" .I asked which it was. The answer was "Beef, Mutton, all the same." I suspect it wes neither smile

I simply draw the line at stuff which doesn't taste nice, is illegal or would cost too much (i.e. things that eat meat). Otherwise it's fair game.

I do think we should be more open about which meats we do eat. Take horse for example. It's crazy that we export horse meat - yet generally don't consume it ourselves (Tesco jokes aside).

Same goes for fish - we eat relatively few varieties of the fish caught in our waters. Many are almost exclusively sold for consumption on the continent.

I think it should be legal to eat people. For some, it's the only purpose they will ever serve whereas animals at least look nice smile

I wouldn't eat dog and might think twice about Gorilla but I'm up for basically anything else.

I'd have no issues with allowing the hunting and consumption of chavs and s but I bet they'd taste horrible vomit.

The sort of people you're thinking of probably contain substandard, toxic meat.

For health reasons one should not eat the meat of carnivores. Toxins in the food chain tend to congregate at the top - so Eagle should be off the menu. Also for health reasons human meat is a very, very bad idea.

One should not eat endangered species. The death of biodiversity will be our undoing.

After that - If it doesn't taste nice why would you bother?

I suspect we 'ought' to eat less intensive meat/animal products like insects and small, fast growing animals like rats but I'm a bit stuck in my ways and like good old beef, lamb, pork and chicken - even shellfish is a bit fancy for my liking.
Apart from horse, is there any major 'food' animal that's enjoyed elsewhere that we miss out on?

Rabbits and Goat seem to be the main ones the rest of the world eats that we don't

Any kind of game also seems to be undeservedly unpopular

Ah. I was thinking eating a vegan who only eats organic might not be a bad suggestion. biggrin

For any reporters out there, this was a tongue-in-cheek post. My tongue not a vegan's tongue. FFS.

I feel sorry for chickens - they're cute but just so tasty.

What I really really draw the line at are strange sea creatures - sea slugs and sea cucumbers and things that are luminous. Just about anything that the Chinese think makes your knob bigger is usually pretty rank. Also the "insanity" hot wings in The Pour House in Leeds because they made my bottom fall off.

Any that we want to. Life is a fight for survival, and we get eaten in turn.

Enjoy eating your meat (fnarr) while it lasts, insects are coming, fried, boiled, sauteed with a twitht of lemon. The multi-nationals are already a long way down the development line. yes

Rabbit can be bony and stringy - Goat, when cooked right, is awesome. As for Game - it's generally awesome.

I could live the rest of my life, never eat chicken again and I'd be happy.

Better to render them down and use them as heating oil or something

If they taste nice or can be made to why not. We're having Quorn slag Bol tonight I've no idea what a Quorn is but in a spaghetti Bol it tastes fine.
