I'd say the £125 a head figure was about bang on, I've eaten there 20+ times and 15 of them have been £100-150. £30 for a steak is on the low side and often people will have 2 sides or 6/7 between 4. Also don't forget the 12.5% service + water + coffee and that's before you even get to wine.

You can't got far wrong if you budget £125-150 a head.
why on earth would you eat there that many times, it's awful?
If you say so! I think Hawksmoor and Goodmans are on a par and I've probably eaten there 30+ times too. And why? Well I eat out...a lot.

As for the Beast which I mentioned above I think Jay Rayner sums it up well:

http://www.relaisdevenise.com/city/ just round the corner from Bank station. The only course they do is steak and chips, and they do it twice!

Oooo, that looks good.

Not far from there most days of the week and I feel a leisurely lunch coming on.

It's OK (think there's one in Geneva too) - either that or went somewhere very similar whilst there).

Not as good as Hawksmoor or Goodmans though if outright food quality is the highest priority.

It puzzles me why people attempt to back up their opinions with such phrases as "Well I eat out... a lot."

I don't eat out... much.

Because I can make better myself.

They are fundamentally different things though. My father was going to the original in the 70s, and I took my son there last year. Hasn't changed a bit over the years. I think the Geneva one is another family member. Probably much the same.

It isn't "modern" steak in the Goodman/New St/Hawksmoor way, but I don't think that is a bad thing.

Fun place to go as the only option is how you have it cooked...comes in a "secret sauce".

The original one in London is in Marylebone. The house vin rouge is probably the best £15 bottle of red served at a restaurant in London...very quaffable!

Thanks for you useful input. If you actually read the above you would have realised I wasn't trying to back up my opinion at all, I was answering a direct question as to why I have eaten there so many times.

And the answer is that I eat out...a lot. I think 2012 was my high water mark of 235 restaurants and I ate out 290 times. Therefore I have eaten in the some places many many times over the years.

Ans as for being able to cook better yourself...you must be one hell of a chef!

Just curious - how come so much? Personal preference or work commitments? Or neither?! Just being nosey, sorry!

Both. I work long hours and the idea of going home, probably via a supermarket, to then go home and prepare food and then cook it would mean eating very late. Instead I can walk out of work and straight in to a restaurant and be home and fed about the time I would have just been starting to eat. So much so that I actually live in a house without an oven!

Ans yes, I am still at work.
