Anyone find it to be a headache sometimes when it comes to paying the bill with friends after a meal. Some times it can be difficult figuring out the best way to pay for the stuff you have eaten or to just split the bill. But on occasions it doesn't seem fair that some people should pay the same amount if they have ordered less items than the others. Small groups aren't too bad but 6+ people it gets difficult. What do you guys normally do? Are you the person that says to split the bill while consuming more than others or do you only pay for what you have eaten/drank?

Split it unless someone hasn't been drinking wine etc then I insist that they don't pay for my booze. But I've suffered in the past with many awkward friends who either don't chip in with enough or claim to not mind splitting it but then are visibly Adding up afterwards.

100% split it. I've witnessed tables of women working their individual contributions out to the level of pence and think it's pathetic. Not the kind of pedantic aholes I'd want to dine with!

This. I loathe seeing people using calculators and menus to work out what they must contribute. Non drinker is a different consideration though.

Or pregnant, or on antibiotics, or just isn't a drinker... and so doesn't get a free meal for being a minicab!

Just the way we do it.

One of my friends doesn't drink so he always drives, we all pay for his food.

Always fair if they're driving!

splitting it is fine but there's a new breed of person who egregiously pick the most expensive thing on the menu.

now who's the tightwad, the one who wants to split it knowing full well others have subsidised their choice, or the one who is more than happy to pay their way?

agree with good friends splitting is best, but nothing worse than going out with colleagues and witnessing someone choosing top $ knowing they will pay a small fraction of the marginal increment.

Split it.

If someone's being a bellend about it then don't go to dinner with them.

I think if it's obviously within a couple of quid then just split.

But if there are obvious differences eg greedy heavy drinkers or non drinking couples / veggies then it's only right to take that into account.

I'd not expect someone else to pay for my share. Especially when others might have far less disposable cash.

I have a friend - actually more of an ex-friend - who always carries lots of small change lest she have to split a bill.

Unsurprisingly, she's single.
