Stella is disgusting stuff these days. It used to be one of the best lagers out there, but it's been getting cheaper and nastier for years now yuck You can even tell this from the ABV - from 5.2% to 5% and now down to 4.8%.

Just noticed one of my favourite tipples, Tyskie, has dropped from 5.5% to 5%. Reading up it’s because the manafacturer has ditched glucose syrup from the recipe. Another victim of the sugar tax I presume?

I wonder how much of this is due to hmrc, Carling was found to be brewed at 3.7% for tax reasons even though it says 4% on the can, how this isn't false advertising I don't know?

Stella where I live is the original and best "full fat" 5.2%
I was gutted when they shrank the cans from 500ml to 440ml, though.

I caveat this statement with the fact that I know virtually nothing about brewing beer however I assume that mega brewers like Molson-Coors can brew beer to a very precise ABV and the tolerance on declared ABV versus actual is a piss take for both the consumer and HMRC. Assuming I am not off the mark, HMRC should tighten the tolerance so that only smaller brewers, where the tolerance may be relevant, should be able to apply it. Happy to be corrected here!

on a similar note....Budweiser is now 4.5%.

I think you can get 20 bottles for 10-12 quid these days however which compared to the nineties when I first started drinking is cheaper even before you factor in inflation. in real terms its probably about half the price, and still the same piss!

I'm a bit of a craft and real ale convert these days, it definitely pays to buy the good stuff. Belgian beers in particular are a favourite and if you aren't massively picky, Tesco has a fair few in, I think it was 5.25 for 3 this week.

Its got to the stage however that you can drink very decent wine for the price of beer, especially outside of supermarkets. My local craft beer place is 3-5 quid a bottle and pound for pound you can buy decent wine if you think 3-4 beers per bottle of wine!

All correct and I believe carling is back at 4% to keep the consumer happy.

After a quick look online I can't find any evidence of that.

Budweiser bottles have been 300ml for a good while now, so that's one reason it seems a better deal.

Got to admit, still like Stella but favour Duvel, Belgian beer. £2.00 per 330ml bottle in most supermarkets but 8.5%!! I tend to like the stronger brews, you also tend not to drink as much!

No bitter aftertaste, tastes great, not gassy but I do the loudest burps!! Very Satisfying in a Men Behaving Badly sort of way.

You can also buy it direct at £1.59 a bottle with free delivery for 12 bottles and over, in 48 - 72hrs from Beerwulf.com

They have a Tripel Hop at £1.89 per 330ml bottle and loads of other beers. For these prices, you can't go wrong!

Happy Days! smile

For any of you lamenting the loss of the stronger beer, I've got 8 bottles of 65% stuff that will - if nothing else - take your mind of the demise of Stella.

A 330ml bottle is 22 units.

Have you tried it? Surely too strong to taste of beer?

Isn't that something that they'd want to make public knowledge, after the slating they got for intentionally misleading their customers?
