5 get over excited in London
Discussion
So here's the brief:
5 middle aged man friends (all married with kids so no coke & hookers) meeting up for a weekend of fun and indulgence without the wives and kids in London mid December. We're going to take a serviced apartment somewhere central as a base for the weekend. We're all foodies (and drinkies) and between us we think we have a pretty good knowledge of the superficial face of London. But what we're looking for is to experience the hidden London, the best bits that are largely unknown but stupendously excellent and memorable for reasons that you might find difficult to explain to someone who hadn't been there. So I'm looking for recommendations on the most interesting, unusual and unforgettable eating and drinking experiences in the city. Budget is not open ended but none of us mind paying for something exceptional.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Just spend all weekend in Borough Market and eat and drink yourselves into a stupor.
That's not a bad shout. I could happily spend most of a weekend in the Market Porter drinking Sussex Best.
Pop down to Table for some breakfast. Various stalls for lunch. Hawksmoor etc for dinner.
For something a bit cheaper the next day go to the Lahore Kebab House or maybe Tayyabs (I've had mixed experiences there recently mind).
Or have a mooch round Smithsfield Market (more for food than drink) or Hoxton for bars.
Depends what you enjoy doing between food and drink. Imperial War museum is worth a visit, as ae the Tower, Tower Bridge and the Belfast. None of which get in the way of eating and drinking too badly.
Plenty of late night entertainment if you need it too....
For something completely local have pie/stewed eels, mash and liquor. there is an old family chain, Manzes, near Tower Bridge that have been going for over a 100 years. As a lad I used to frequent the one in Peckham, same family chain at the bottom of Hill Street.
You'll either love or hate it, think of it as fast food that predates most by 70 years. Have the eels in a separate bowl.

If you fancy heading south of the river then Brixton village and Market Row is quite interesting with lots of great eateries from all over the world under an old indoor Victorian market.
Or if your out in Soho and find your self a little peckish then Opuz on Old Compton St serves the best kebabs I've tried in London.

Get down to Hammersmith and have a beer in the Dove on the river front has the worlds smallest bar room and is in the guinness book of records for it and then head to Mahdi on King Street up the road for a feast of Iranian food where you will be hugely outnumbered by Iranians eating.
