Second that! Definitely the best place to have lunch in manchester. I always say I will go somewhere else, but always end up there. I go so much the head waitress knows us . It's very easy to get carried away though and I've never been and not ordered the mozzarella balls.. So simple but so good.

As for Jamie's.. I like it! Food is always spot on, service good and a brilliant atmosphere when busy (which it always is).

Another good place to have lunch in manchester is Sams Chophouse. Also lots of places in the Northern quarter.

Sams Chop House is good, look out for the strange bloke at the bar he is always there

I also like Bar and Grill and there is a nice Thai restaurant, I forget its name though

To be fair to the fat tongued mockney he's never claimed to be and doesn't seem interested in the fine dining end of the market.

Went for a meal with the missus for our anniversary last year. The setting itself in the old bank is fantastic. Food wise the sharing starter on the plank we thought was very good. My main wasn't really anything to get excited about, it was a sausage something or other.

The service though was the best I've experienced. My wife's pasta wasn't cooked enough, they apologized, took both meals away and then brought out 2 completely new dishes (even though I'd had a few bites of mine already) as they wanted us to be able to eat together. We also got a complimentary free drink for the trouble and the manager came to apologise as well. Never had that when complaining before, they usually just replace the offending meal.

We also had a couple of the cocktails downstairs before eating, they were really good (and expensive)!

Overall won't be going back but certainly wouldn't dissuade anyone from going if only.

Just had lunch with the wife and have to say it was pretty good.

I had prawn linguini which was good but the wife had the special which was slow cooked lamb tagliatelle which was really good. Service was good too.

It's still chain food but in the Cardiff one at least has improved a lot in the last 2 times I've been.

There's just one problem with it and that is some of the clientele. I was put off a few years ago by some wannabe idiots a few tables over.

There's very few places in Manchester that don't get wannabe's once the place gets a good reputation. Fortunately, most of my dining is done mid week so avoid most of it, San Carlo's on a Saturday night is slightly comical, great for people watching.

My main gripe with Cicchetti was that when it first opened you couldn't book a table. Not a major issue on a Tuesday lunchtime, but having to stand for 60 mins in a packed narrow bar on a Saturday Night waiting for a table to come free - no thanks. Glad to see they changed that.

Yeah very good point you make there. I rarely eat out in city centre now but if I do it's often somewhere a bit dirty like Almost Famous or something. Although Australasia was a relatively pleasant experience when I went.

I'm going to Vermillion soon. Seems to be in a very odd location but its something new.

Well we went to Jamie's last night and really enjoyed it.
The building is stunning, great atmosphere as it was very busy with people from the Christmas markets.
Food was excellent. I had a burger with triple cooked chips and the wife had chicken Al mattone.
For deserts she had the epic brownie and I had a messy brownie from the specials board.
Definitely will go again, it was the most enjoyable meal out we have had in ages.
Didn't get to see in the vault unfortunately as there was a party in there.
