POD coffee machine - which one
Discussion
Have searched here & see general consensus is for 'proper' machines but wonder which is recommended.
Thanks in advance
Only drink 1-2 a day if that budget <100 ideal, lower would be better.
Had espresso before - don't really drink that anymore & hassle to make
speed & clean of pod machine appeals,
kids as well so one that can make hot chocs etc. too would be ideal.
Not too worried about latte pods quality as have milk frother and don't mind doing that seperate when fancy one.
Above list is where I'm coming from to get to a pod machine - but which is recommended please ?
Have the Tassimo T40 Costa offer (£45) - (tempted).
Seen De'Longhi Dolce Gusto Melody III (£50).
Nespresso (£75 upwards)
Thanks in advance

One of these. Makes great lattes and macchiatos and easy to clean. Job done.

That's what I've got. Very good for Espresso, Latte and Cappuccino and you can make a long coffee with it too (I run the program twice on the Lungno pod).http://www.sonicdirect.co.uk/Coffee-Makers/Delongh...
But, it's a Nespresso so you have to buy the pods online, and it won't make hot chocolate although on the latte setting you could get it to make you a fairly large cup of frothy milk removing the cup before the water comes through for the espresso shot, then add you chocolate.
Thanks for replies.
The DeLonghi looks great but out of my price range.
Tempted by Tassimo due to Costa (we like) and availability of pods.
So Nespresso are online pod's only.
What about the Nescafe Dolce Gusto ?
Is there a pod machine that can take other brad pods ? (LIDL/Aldi sure I've read somewhere are decent)

Nespresso for us, if you order pods online you have to order 50 of each flavour, if you ring them to order you can split into 10's also from what i remember you have to order 200 for free postage.
if you go nespresso keep your eyes open for when they put an offer on with vouchers for pods when purchasing a machine, we bought both of ours when on offer at John Lewis

do all those branded machines use the same pods ?
Yes.do all those branded machines use the same pods ?
Don't bother trying to save a few pennys using non-Nespresso pods either, just order them from www.nespresso.com
There are offers to be had for your first order which are worth taking up.
If you have a factory shop village nearby, check if they have a Tefal Home and Cook Store. In the one nearby to me (Clarkes Village at Street), the Tefal store has savings worth having on Nespresso machines.
Another vote for Nespresso I swear by it by far the best pod machine out there, I have this one http://www.johnlewis.com/nespresso/browse/lattissi...
Incidentally, Nespresso is the only coffee Heston Blumenthal serves at the Fat Duck but it costs around 7.50 for an expresso

In support of the Tassimo, it's only £45 at the moment for a T40 if you have a Costa coffee loyalty card, comes with a pack of Lattes, a free glass, £5 costa points and 2 x £10 vouchers.
On the flip side, the Nespresso clone pods are also available from M&S at ~£3 for 10 if you don't want to order 200.

Basically, the same price then You can also get capsules from "nespresso boutiques" - few in London, one in Birmingham, and a few dotted around elsewhere.
The mail order service is brilliant though.
Had a Tassimo and couldn't get it to make a coffee I liked despite trying all the options - now on a Nespresso and struggling to settle on one particular type I like the best out of many I've enjoyed.
However if you want hot chocolate, tea and all the other stuff to be generated by the machine then a Tassimo is probably the best compromise - if you aren't a coffee purist (I don't like Costa coffee so wasn't off to a good start) you might be happy enough with their offerings, the milk is grim, stick to your current device for that.
Tassimo makes it a lot easier to try things as it's in the supermarket and while build quality is nowhere near the machines they sell are much better thought out than Nespresso ones IMO. You shouldn't be able to press the button to make a drink if there is no water in a machine for example but the Nespresso I have will happily let you try and make a brew of air, the Tassimo would have been flashing lights at me as the level got low. The water tank was also a lot bigger.
Just a shame the coffee was awful.

Another one for Nespresso. I've converted so many people it's silly.
The coffee is superb plus I also think it's the most environmentally friendly if that stuff floats your boat. The capsule are 100% recyclable aluminium whereas tassimo are plastic and many of the others are the same.
Ultimately, it's the flavour of the coffee that matters and the Nespresso is the best one I've had.
