Recommend me a decent Bourbon whiskey ......

Step outside the supermarket is my advice. See if you can get hold of Rock Hill Farms or Noah's Mill. Former is basically Xmas in a glass and the latter is deep caramel without the sickly sweet. There's a whole world out there and Bourbon is so much better and more varied than what you can get on a Tesco shelf. Also as I understand it JD isn't bourbon aswell as being fit for mixed drinks only?
I've just bought myself a bottle of Buffalo Trace, £18 for a big bottle at Asda. I also got a JD Honey glass and miniature, as I didn't have a suitable glass for bourbon drinking. The JD Honey was ok, I had it straight from the freezer as per the recommendation on the bottle, it was a bit syrupy due to the chill, and smoky sweet and that not all that pleasant. I wouldn't look forward to having a big bottle. I don't really like JD anyway, trying to put another spin on a product that isn't great to start with is not likely to garner amazing results.
The Buffalo Trace on the other hand, was excellent. Liquor at room temperature for this once, served over 2 ice cubes. A lovely smooth, creamy, oak-vanilla start with a peppery kick at end, very nice indeed.
This has got me thinking though, if you go to pains of buying good bourbon and you want to drink it over ice, is there a solution for better ice? Good bourbon, ice cubes made with tap water, see my point? I have access to a Brita filter so I may start making ice cubes with filtered water.

I tend to either use the water straight out the tap, or boil the kettle and let it cool and then use that water.
Doesn't make much difference to be honest, but I do live in Scotland where the tap water is nice
Interesting to hear about buffalo trace, I have been eyeing up a bottle for a while but never got round to it. Couldn't agree more with JD honey, I found it sickly sweet. Although I actually don't mind the standard stuff over ice "paperbag"
