Im currently running for espresso a Rocker R58 espresso machine with a Mahlkonig K30 Air grinder and for filer an aeropauses and a V60 pour over.

I have been using the following places for beans

Hasbean
James Gourmet
Square Mile
Union
Workshop
RoundHill
and a local place has just opened up (Beanshot)

I have just bought a Nespresso Latissima.

I'm a big fan of the Chemex brewing method and usually get coffee from HasBean or Square Mile.

Decided to opt for the Latissima because of it's 'one touch' latte/cappuccino ability. It's a great piece of kit and very easy to clean etc.

They give you 16 different pods to sample. I hated most of them but there are 2-3 light roasts that are fairly good. Going to look into reusable pods and use HasBean hopefully.

Hate almost all Supermarket coffee, including Starbucks, Costa, Lavazza, Taylors, Illy etc. The best supermarket coffee I have found is Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Fairtrade Kenyan - which isn't too over roasted and has a buttery mouthfeel. I even think 'Lazy Sunday' by Taylors is over roasted.

I discovered BeanShot in Bruton only last week. Was very impressed by the coffee and the enthusiasm/knowledge of the staff.

Would love one of the £1000 coffee machines they have on sale, but I'll have to stick with someone else making me nice coffee....

I thought I would feedback here as I have had universally positive feedback regarding the Smokey Barn coffee I ordered.

We are currently making our way through the Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Rocko Mountain Reserve (the third from my order). It's delicious.

I have had multiple comments from people who asked for 'a black coffee' saying how lovely it is. I've not had that before (I have plenty of visitors to my office). Most importantly it's well roasted and ground as I need for filter.

My order:

Very happy and it's always good to find a quality product from a PHer. I will be ordering again soon.

EDIT: http://www.smokeybarn.co.uk/ethiopia-yirgacheffe-r... I just watched the video here where the chap says "it's delicious" - I have no connection whatsoever I can assure you!

Also, I found that this coffee benefited from being careful to avoid using too much. It is at it's best with slightly less than I would usually use in the filter (I use a ceramic cone with a paper filter - and yes I love Monmouth coffee who do the same!).

The closest I get to proper coffee at home is a Tassimo Charmy and a morning Carte Noire Crema Intenso!

Will look at alternatives when I get around to it.

I have several choices, depending on the effort and size I feel like, and whether I want it black or frothy.

There is no one size fits all.

Right now, its a hot croissant and a large dark Lavazza Crema e Gusto

We buy from Smokey Barn and love the stuff.

I did buy my mum a Tassimo machine for Christmas and tried the Crema Intenso today and have to say it wasn't as bad as I expected. Definitely palatable.

Make sure you give it plenty of time to rest, 5 days minimum, 14 ideal.

You bugger. I wanted to try some in the morning!!! Grrrrr. . . . wink

It's been pre-ground for an aeropress. Will leaving it to rest make much of a difference for a non-connoisseur? smile

Do you REALLY want me to wait longer before ordering more from you?! wink

Ahh okay, well in that case - jump in and try it. If it tastes 'roasty', then it's too early.

Only issue with Tassimo is that it doesn't tend to come out all that hot.

My Hasbean subscription has expired so might have to give Smokey Barn a try, always worth seeing what other PHers can achieve.

As for coffee making equipment, I think you have to get in pretty expensive kit to beat a £15 Aeropress, although I also have an espresso pot that I take when camping.

I would say if its pre-ground you should use it as soon as possible, I would say ground coffee is past its best within a few hours! Obviously its still usable, but the bast aroma and taste is always from freshly ground beans. I definitely wouldn't wait to use it if i was using pre-ground coffee!
