It's because there are third-party suppliers who do coffee as good or better for a fraction of the cost.
Exactly. Nespresso pods are now way overpriced. We are buying most of ours from here

Think official pods are circa 45p each

Be interesting to see Nespresso's numbers over the next few years. Overpriced for what they are and an easy thing to cut out / downgrade if money is tight.

Just had a look and a lot of them are over 50p. I was an”ambassador” which involves buying over 1000 pods per annum. I don’t buy any now and spend around 20p a pod on alternatives which IMO are as good or better.Think official pods are circa 45p each
I have had Nespresso machines for years.
All the 'traditional' pod machines have been replaced with Vertuo now.
I was disappointed when the Alto size was killed off but a smaller but still big coffee has recently been released.
I tried some of the compatible pods when I had the old machines but sometimes they just didn't work and largely they were weak flavoured so I am happy buying the official pods.

No you can still get traditional pod machines and the compatible pods work every time and are better and cheaper than the official pods. I’ve no experience of Vertuo and don’t intend to as I wouldn’t want to pay for overpriced pods from Nespresso. All the 'traditional' pod machines have been replaced with Vertuo now.

What I do is wait for special offers such as buy 160 pods and get 40 free.

That's what I do. My experience of the non-Nespresso pods is also poor; leaks, needing a lot more 'puncture pressure', poor taste, and all to save what, 6 or 7p per cup? Life's too short.
Some third-party pods are excellent, and you're not saving 6, 7p per cup, you're paying half of Nespresso prices or less. craig1912 said:

Fq me.All MY traditional pod machines have been replaced with Vertuo now…
Compatible pods have always worked for you, okay with me, I believe you. They have not worked every time for me and I didn’t try many.
I’m not going to start debating if 40p or 60p or whatever is overpriced, opinions vary.

Not knocking those who choose to use third-party pods, and their quality and certainly availability seems to be much better these days, just that I’ve never found them compelling. At 15-17p a pod I might though!

I’ve no doubt some of them are great, but my last order worked out at about 33p a pod, and my recollection of school arithmetic lessons suggests that’s not double the 27.5p being bandied about on this thread.

Cheapest Nespresso pod is 39p and most are 42p plus.
I’m also not knocking anyone who wants to buy the genuine thing but there are some good alternatives at a third of the price.
I’ve recently found that Lavazza are doing aluminium pods now. I got some Qualita Rossa ones to try, and they were pretty good - I have liked that coffee for years in other formats.
Not mega cheap, but usefully cheaper than actual Nespresso ones, and cheaper than Starbucks Colombian ones too that I’ve been using for a while (which I’m aware are made by Nespresso). I’m paying 28p a pod from Amazon, getting 100 at a time on subscription which lasts a good month.

I thought I would upgrade to a Vertuo machine a couple of years ago but it lasted a week before sending it back. I prefer a pod from the original machine, topped up with hot water then cold milk; I had to scoop off loads of crema from the Vertuo and I just couldn’t get it right for me. I also tend to buy third party pods when available, which you can’t do with the newer machine.

…but you can buy silicon tops that you can re-use on empty pods. I ran at Vertuo prices from early lockdown until about 6 weeks ago - then I bought some silicon reusable caps and filled old Vertuo pods with Lavazza espresso. It tastes much better and is a fraction of the cost. My daughter is also sold on the tastier cheaper option.w1bbles said:

Care to post a link to them If you prefer long coffees but not Americanos then the Vertuo is better, I rarely use my Krupps Classic now, however the down side is no third party pods.
