Xmas coming up , yadda yadda. MIL wants to get us a Vertuo machine. There's nothing wrong with our original Krups machine that's been bangin out consistent coffee for a good few years.
Worth upgrading ? is Vertuo that much better?
Thanks in advance
It's not an upgrade. It makes different coffee. Designed for the Yanks who love a big mug of coffee rather than espresso based drinks. Does still make espressos, lattes etc but through a different process. More foamyWorth upgrading ? is Vertuo that much better?

Also, the pods are still in the patented period so nobody sells compatibles. If that's an issue for you.

Can anyone recommend me a Nespresso machine please? It’s for the Mrs for Christmas, she drinks lattes mostly
We have a Latissima. Perfect for lattes as you just press a button and it does it all for you. Stick the milk bit in the dishwasher every few days and that's all the cleaning doneI’ve gone from a basic one with Aeroccino, then a Latissima, now a Creatista, and while both the Aeroccino and Latissima are capable of doing a passable latte/cappuccino etc., there really is no beating the actual steam wand of the Creatista.
It’s better, more consistent, and requires less cleaning/maintenance than the Latissima or Aeroccino.
Does come at a price though, I admit.

WELL… people will tell you all manner of nonsense and there’s certainly an element of Emperors new coffee machine with a lot of people but yes that’s absolutely a good gift.Nespresso Citiz Automatic Pod Coffee Machine with Milk Frother for Espresso, Cappuccino and Latte by Magimix in Black https://amzn.eu/d/13kOMNS
I suggested Latissima as they are the simplest and easiest solution for a latte but that set is fine.
There’s an element of quality control so realistically any machine is fine.

Thanks guys but I can’t drop £650 on a coffee machine, she’s not that into it
Check the subscription deals (not just for his one) - the £1 for the machine with a 12 month sub is long gone, but they still do machine discounts for taking out a sub. (just looked, only up to £150https://www.nespresso.com/uk/en/subscriptions/nesp...
I was going to post that’s what I’ve done for the past 7 or 8 years.
We go through a fair amount of coffee but not at the subscription level, so take it for a year, get the new machine, bank what we don’t use, cancel after 12 months then run the credit down over the following 6-12 months (it doesn’t expire afaik).
Rinse and repeat. Flog the 18-24 month old machine to recuperate a few £
Edit: still on here, anyway

Subscription credits last for 12 or 24 months (can't remember which) from the point the credit payment is made.We go through a fair amount of coffee but not at the subscription level, so take it for a year, get the new machine, bank what we don’t use, cancel after 12 months then run the credit down over the following 6-12 months (it doesn’t expire afaik).

Thanks. All I know is that it's never run out.I worked it out and we've replaced machines roughly every 20 months and so our spend averages out about €25-30 per month over the whole time, including selling on the old machine for about 50% of RRP.
Really all we're saving then is whatever we sell the machine for - works out about a tenner or so a month, or 20-odd coffees - but with always having a 'new' machine, at the cost of a little more hassle.
I also only buy pods in bulk when there are offers on, so always get free pods, chocolates, glasses, flasks etc., so I guess there's that. Mrs LLA was quite taken by the four Fusalp espresso martini glasses we got with the last order .You're daft not to buy in bulk and get the freebies if you are accruing the credit anyway and can choose when to spend it.
I don't always manage to stay in the top loyalty reward tier, but that also chucks you free stuff from time to time.
It's probably not for everyone, I agree, certainly if you only have 4 or 5 cups a week.
Found this interesting, seems there are differences between Nespresso pods and thirds party ones. In short they have patents on there pods which has an extra paper filter that allows better distribution of water through pod, and also special grinding techniques.

…but you can buy silicon tops that you can re-use on empty pods. I ran at Vertuo prices from early lockdown until about 6 weeks ago - then I bought some silicon reusable caps and filled old Vertuo pods with Lavazza espresso. It tastes much better and is a fraction of the cost. My daughter is also sold on the tastier cheaper option.
Exactly this ^^^^Really like the Lavazza coffee. Refilling the Vertuo pods is the way.

Works rather well, did try re-using a used Nespresso pod but realised it was not worth the hassle as these reusable ones work as long as you properly fill them. Only catch was I had just put in a bulk order with Nespresso, still virtually finished off my Illy grounds and now have some Cafe Nero to try.
