I remember reading something that said the newer Nespresso machines were designed so the use of the non-genuine plastic pods damaged them in some way. The older machines work fine but the new ones (U and maybe some others) don't like them at all.
That was indeed the case, which resulted in a lawsuit: the new designs don't have this issue and AIUI Nestle can't decline warranty claims as a result of 3rd party capsule use.Certainly my machine (Christmas present) doesn't feature the design element that could have caused problems with other capsules. I've put north of 100 3rd party capsules through it with no issues whatsoever.
I've been about to take the plunge and buy a Pixie for the last couple of weeks having used one in a few hotels recently. Then I saw the price of pods in Sainsburys yesterday, over £4 per 100gms of coffee - that has to be the most expensive way of drinking coffee at home on the planet. I was thinking I'd put the Pixie in my home office so I could enjoy a few coffees a day without having to go to the kitchen but I'm having second thoughts now - or am I being too much of a skinflint?

The cost (excluding milk) of an Espresso or Americano is ~30p per cup when genuine pods are bought direct from Nespresso (online or in-store).You would have to be sensationally tight to consider this an expensive way to drink coffee...

Yep, worth every penny.
Really not that expensive, great consistent coffee that suits your tastes, and no mess or fuss.
If you like lattés or cappuccino then I'd strongly recommend the latissima+, for one touch layered latté and easy cleanup every couple of days, rather than every cup.

Fair, but that is a small premium at best. A decent bag of coffee costs £5 and makes 30-35 cups.
You need more than one Nespresso pod to make a proper coffee though. They're only 5/6 grams, which is why they're so weak. You want 9/10g for a single espresso, and often more if you're making something milky and tall. Edited by OllyMo on Friday 26th June 17:00

I often also use two capsules to make a single good coffee.Edited by OllyMo on Friday 26th June 17:00
For weekday drinking, we buy the Ristoretto (Ie. strongest) capsules from Lidl.
Taste fine, my untrained palette can't really tell much difference. Work out 17p a capsule, so no worries with doubling up!
Use the Nespresso branded capsules at the weekends.

It cuts off the flow of water too soon.
I've tried resetting (switch off, press and hold lungo button switch on wait till it flashes) no dice.
I've tried holding the button down to adjust the volume of water and it makes no difference.
It's Krups Citiz
Citiz or citiz and milk? Is there a power button on the base if it's a citiz and milk?I've tried resetting (switch off, press and hold lungo button switch on wait till it flashes) no dice.

Just bought one of these little buggers as the in laws have one and the coffee is fantastic. They also have the Pixie Lungo metal cups which I love. Does anyone know where is the best and cheapest place to buy these from as I don't really fancy paying more for cups than I did the actual machine, can't see them cheaper than £32 per pair.
