frozen chicken question
Discussion
According to the USA food standards there are three ways to thaw chicken: in the refrigerator, in cold water and in the microwave. They say never to thaw chicken on the counter or in other locations (which is what i do and i've never had any issues).
They recommend the fridge method but say pretty much all chicken parts may take 1 to 2 days or longer to thaw. Once the raw chicken thaws, it can be kept in the refrigerator an additional day or two before cooking. during this time, if chicken thawed in the refrigerator is not used, it can safely be refrozen without cooking it first.
I would never refreeze chicken if it had previously been frozen but so long as you buy it pre-expiry date and freeze it before it goes out of date you wont have any problems with it (supposing you have taken it out within 9 months (US food standards recommended time for keeping chicken frozen), of purchase.
I always go to makro for my chicken and beef and every so often they have chicken and duck going cheap because it goes out of date the next day so i just make sure i freeze it as soon as i get home and its always perfect!

silly me froze a bunch of chicken that's all stuck together and don't want to use it all at once lol
Resort to a screw driver and hammer, if all else fails. It'll keep for 2/3 days in the fridge. Your nose will tell you if its ok or not
But if you're not going to use it & can't get it apart... Cook what you don't use, leave to cool & chuck it back in the freezer

I just take it out in the morning before I leave for work; stick it on a plate (still sealed in its packaging) on the kitchen worktop. Thawing it in a microwave just seems wrong to me.
