my fave is an xl bacon double cheese with onion from B.K. mainly because i didn't have to explain that i dont want any salad pickle or mustard. and the x.l. seemed perfect. that said i prefer maccy d fries and when they do them the onion rings are amazingly good. i tnd to get my main burger from b.k. then go 1 mile or so to get the rest including a double cheeseburger chaser smile they seem to churn those out and never have to wait for it to be without the crap i dont like. the burger king is starting to look a bit shabby though, the one at beeston by the b and q for those local. Maccy d's on butt lane is a top place, and always happy to make you up something different.

You can't compare the prices charged at motorway services as the vast majority of BKs are franchises that have to pay a bloody fortune to BK plus the owner of the services plus staff are often on better wages that those on high street locations.

IIRC a large Whopper meal was £6.50 when I used to work at a motorway services almost 15 years ago!!!
Kind of, all motorway service area tenants are on turnover rents, so in effect the more you charge the more you pay in rent. The staff don't always get paid more as it depends on how accessible the services are and how difficult it is for staff to get there.

BK Franchisees don't have set guidelines on pricing so basically charge what they like. McD will be the higher pricing tier in service areas which tends to be a maximum of 20p higher for an extra value meal than the average high street.

Had a Grand the other night and I quite liked it.

The burgers were flat, lets not try and hide it. The advert clearly shows quite a tall burger, the real thing is not like that.

But taste wise, its good. It wouldn't replace my usual preference for a sweet chilli wrap and a cheeky cheese burger but it was nice all the same.

Also had the cheese bites and found them to also be quite nice too.

As for the BK vs MD, Interesting over the fact MD have more control over premises, that explains why most BKs seem more dull and not as polished. Menus not displayed as nicely and quite often the kitchen area looks decidedly worn out.

The Mds near me has just been revamped and they have the big screens which you go in and order from, then queue in a separate queue and wait for your number to come up. Its a great system and I'm surprised so many people seem to avoid it! They also have a bank of android touch screens for the kids to play with too. really not a bad place to go have a coffee in what with free wifi, makes the local BK look tired and dated.

There's a video somewhere on Youtube showing the lengths we go to in preparing the burgers for photographing, shame it never translates to what you order.

Fast Food Argos.
yes

Yep it's exactly that. Saw it in Milton Keynes last weekend. You walk in to the McDs go up to one of the order points which is a pillar with a big touch screen on it. Tap the pictures to place your order, pay with your card and get a receipt with a collection point letter on it. Then loiter around watching the screens by the collection point until your order number flashes across from "being prepared" to "collect" and go to your collection point to get your tucker. Seemed a lot slower than the normal way of just going up to the till and ordering TBH.

I dont know how common this is around the nation but on Friday night when reasonably pissed up at Paddington station I noticed the board roll around to a "triple whopper".

Being drunk I had no choice but to go for it. £7.99 I think for the meal.

I had a 'The Grand' and felt it was pretty poor. Thin burgers and floppy salad.

A double whopper with extra salad. Now that is grand!!!

That guy has some serious skills, will slip the video into one of my board presentations and see how it goes down...

He really has. The Board deserve to see it. Let us know what they think and I'll let Matt know.

The Grand? more like The Grim. tried one of these today, it was bloody terrible, an under-par facsimile of the heroic Double Whopper. And another thing, the one I had the misfortune of sampling seemed to have been assembled by an epileptic during a fireworks display. sort it out McDonalds.

Tried a Grand today as well. As per above post, it's certainly nothing to shout about compared to a Whopper.

I have asked for and got a Big Tasty with Big Mac sauce many times.. it's much better than a std. Big Tasty.

But I prefer Burger King if only for the toms & onion.

But lets cut to the chase, they all pale into insignificance next to the glory of the "In n Out" burger which is only available on the left hand side of the America, but is well worth the plane fare...

(Byron Burger is good in the UK too, but not fast or cheap)

In n Out burgers are the holy grail of fast food, unbelievably good and very cheap too!

They've just started the 'made for you' in certain McDonalds over here and I'm not so sure.

You order and pay at the till, are given a ticket with your number on it and then stand five feet away from the till with everyone else looking up at a screen waiting for your number to be displayed.

Not my cup of McFlurry, anyway.
Because they are running scared of the rise of the likes of Five Guys who similarly make you wait for your burger but people are prepared to pay loads of money for this.

Not really, it's a new platform that means everything is made to order yet takes the same or less time than previously. We're a completely different price point too.
