Hello,

I'm in London later this week and really want to try a proper, authentic salt beef sandwich.

Problem is, I don't have much spare time at all so I need a place which is easily accessible via tube so I can get a quick takeaway.

I would love to try Beigel Bake but it looks a fair distance away from the nearest station - as does The Salt Beef Bar, B&K Salt Beef and Montys.

Any suggestions?

Mishkins? - http://mishkins.co.uk/

Where abouts in London are you going to be? Can't beat a Salt Beef Bagel from one of the 24h bagel places on brick lane tbh!

When I used to work in Canary Wharf, we would regularly get salt beef sandwiches from Birley's.

It's amazing how expensive the sandwiches were for such a cheap cut of beef though.

Rubens on baker street for actual Jewish salt beef place with other stuff to order.

Better salt beef sandwich at selfridges "brass rail" though.

Thirded the brass rail.

Not cheap though - circa £15

I'd have a go at curing your own salt beef.

You can pick up decent rolled brisket for £10-15 and this would be enough to feed a small army. You'll need sodium nitrite to get the 'pink' colour.

By Euston.

I fancy those 2 on Brick Lane but it seems a hassle to get there and I don't think I'll get time.

http://www.reubensrestaurant.co.uk/contact.html as mentioned above is the closest decent place to Euston I should think... or Selfridges actually as well but not the most authentic experience!

Beigel Bake on Brick lane is great, but Brass Rail at Selfridges is a good (but more expensive) option.

I think I just like the name but the Tongue & Brisket in Leather lane sounds good.

Beigel Bake hot salt beef is far too fatty, however I lover their chopped herring bagels (or should that be beigels). It is a fair hike from any station though (unless Shoreditch is suddenly re-opened) as you're talking about 15 minutes walk from the Whitechapel exit of Aldgate East station.

For Beigel Bake - TfL put it at 6 mins Euston > Old Street on the Northern Line and then a 25 min walk. From experience that walking time is based on being an old bloke so should be able to cut that down a bit if you're a bit more sprightly.
