I find that I need to use almost 50% more milk than the guidelines on the pack to make it how we both like it — i.e. not so solid that a spoon will stand up in it, just a nice, creamy consistency. 3 zaps in the microwave, with a really good stir in between each one.
Ah, yes, when I made it, it was a bit thicker than I thought it should be. Hoofy said:

Replace water with milk, and that's what I'm having right now. Takes two and a half minutes in the microwave
I tried microwaving it once as someone said you're supposed to do that (because the Scots had microwaves in the 15th century). I ended up using it to fill a large crack in the external rendering.HarryFlatters said:

Is the boxed Quaker Oats brand, proper rolled oats, or another version of Ready Brek.
Rolled oats but with a bunch of sugar and some flavourings. My missus likes porridge made with milk and adds blueberries or banana and maple syrup. I have mine with water and a bucket load of salt - the proper way, not the southern softy, shandy drinker way. Porridge is not to be enjoyed, its there to be endured !

Why put salt, then? Today, mine was Tesco Value Porridge, pour boiled water in a bowl. Stir, wait, eat.FWIW, adding milk, blueberries/banana and maple syrup sounds healthy and it's a great way of increasing your calorie intake in the morning. Is she bulking up?

Interesting point about the missus bulking up though. I'll ask her tonight and report back..... if I'm still alive

FWIW, adding milk, blueberries/banana and maple syrup sounds healthy and it's a great way of increasing your calorie intake in the morning. Is she bulking up?
I've never understood why people buy oat so simple etc when it's so easy to just chuck hot water over a bowl of basic oats! My bowl of porridge (made exactly as you do) probably costs about 6p! FWIW, adding milk, blueberries/banana and maple syrup sounds healthy and it's a great way of increasing your calorie intake in the morning. Is she bulking up?

You misunderstand - we're not talking a half teaspoon 'to taste'. I mean a bucket. Until the veins in my neck are popping. And what's all this indulgent nonsense about a bowl ? Pour it in a drawer and cut a slice when you need it (copyright Paw Broon)

Actually, oats in a firm format like that is an interesting idea.
As for your wife... it was nice speaking to you.
