Currently eat ready brek with cold milk, Just wondering if there is a better non processed type of porridge oats i can use instead that don't require cooking or heating and will mix well with cold milk?

Ready Brek is like wallpaper paste: can't stomach the stuff.

However a decent porridge can be had from soaking 40g boggo whole rolled oats overnight in water with some dried fruit of your choice (or not) then simmering or microwaving these until thick and gloopy.

Personally I like dried cranberries in mine, with a grated apple stirred in plus some cinnamon.

You may be able to to bend oats & milk, but why not "cook" them?

Jumbo oats, night and day compared to the gloop of ready break.

Some of these ideas sound like hard work and involve planning, sod that.

Just buy Oats So Simple, come in packets or tubs and have various flavours. Does what it says on the tub.

Oats with cold milk?

Isn't that just muesli, minus the tasty bits?

Tesco Value Porridge + hot water + honey. Job jobbed. Depends on why you want them - I want to make sure I get enough calories in throughout the day.

Jesus how idle can you get?

If you can't face up to 'cooking' just a short time in a microwave, why not make up your own muesli?

Decent rolled oats, chopped nuts, some dried fruits - raisins / sultanas / chopped dried apricots / dates. Cold milk. Better if left to soak but not necessary and avoids loads of sugar.

But seriously proper porridge takes little time, add in the raisins etc and honey or maple syrup, even golden syrup if you must.

Ready Brek et al yuk.

This is what I do, minus the honey, takes as long as your kettle takes to boil to make!

Replace water with milk, and that's what I'm having right now. Takes two and a half minutes in the microwave smile

I tried microwaving it once as someone said you're supposed to do that (because the Scots had microwaves in the 15th century). I ended up using it to fill a large crack in the external rendering.

I just buy rolled oats, on the ingredients the only ingredient should be rolled oats.

I find that I need to use almost 50% more milk than the guidelines on the pack to make it how we both like it — i.e. not so solid that a spoon will stand up in it, just a nice, creamy consistency. 3 zaps in the microwave, with a really good stir in between each one.

Not sure it'd make any difference for me when my McCoy's Salt and Vinegar Crisps are not just potato, salt and vinegar. biggrin
