I picked up the last one in Tesco Clapham South today, £27, while not as smooth as JW Blue Label for 1/5 of the price it is very nice.

I bought a bottle for my dad's birthday so we had to try it last weekend. Very drinkable!

My first experience of The Monkey Shoulder was at a music festival last year... Wilderness festival

It was a cocktail made up of MS, appetizer and mint. Brilliant!

Apples and Apes I think it's called

This thread has reminded me I have a bottle in the cupboard which has barely been touched (by me, it's 3/4 gone!) First impression is of a surprising banana aroma, then quite a smooth but not particularly interesting generically scotch taste. Not offensive but not massively exciting.

Judging by how much of mine was already gone, visitors will like it. And help themselves.

Back to the Laphroaig Quarter Cask now...

Bourbon business? Is that the Hudson stuff? Or more brands you distribute?

Going off topic for a moment, but what do you make of the Quarter Cask? I am big fan of the regular Laphroaig and the Quarter Cask seems very reasonably priced although some online reviewers seem a bit disgruntled with it.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

It was an unexpected gift so I didn't do any research before I got it. I do like the regular Laphroaig but always slightly preferred Lagavulin. So I haven't had any regular Laphroaig in to compare back to back, but in a comparison with Laga, I still prefer the Laga.

After the Monkey Shoulder last night, the Quarter Cask was beautiful though. Sorry, this review is pretty rubbish isn't it!

That's about the extent of my reviewing skills, worry not hehe

I agree about the Lagavulin, the 16 is my "go to" whisky, especially when it is on offer in Costco. Will give Quarter Cask a go anyway, as well as some Monkey Shoulder. Christ, my wallet will be wishing I had never opened this thread!

That would be Hudson, yes. I was actually up at the distillery today with some of our guys from the UK and Ireland, its always cool to see whats progressing - they're (shock!) putting in a paved road!!

I'm a Lagavulin fiend, both the 16 and the odd bottle of 12 as a treat. I've always liked a drop of Laphroaig, both the QC and the 10 I find pleasing. The best though is the 10 cask strength , a stonking bruiser of a dram, and reasonably priced as well. If you are a Laphroaig fan, the cask strength is an absolute must to try.

Been slowly working my way through a bottle of Monkey Shoulder, it is rather nice. What I would describe as a gentle dram, very easy drinking.

Personally, I prefer the likes of Johnny Walker black for an inexpensive blend but this is a nice alternative. Would buy it again, and am looking forward to polishing off the rest of the bottle smile
