Not particularly cheap but the Stella Lamina pans are great. I've got a set which have taken heavy abuse for 8 years - pretty sure these things will last a lifetime.

Also another vote for De Buyer carbon steel frying pans. Bought a small one recently and I'll definitely be buying more of them.

The classic pans from John Lewis are excellent - had mine for around 20 years now. Still as good as day 1.

Only a bad cook needs a non stick pan.
