So yesterday I was eating out at a restaurant and when my main came I noticed a really small black hair. It was about half a cm long. I just scooped out the food which was surrounding the hair and carried on eating. I didn't fancy telling the waiter in case I got an invisible surprise from the chef instead.

Now, if it was a hair which looked quite long and pube like that would be rather different. What do you people tend to do? Do you remain calm and eat it anyway or demand to see the manager?

Send it back politely, although that is completely dependant on the restaurant, as I would not want any special sauce coming on the new dish.

I'd be the same as you. Little fuss required if it's just an eyelash and nothing more sinister.

It used to be a bit of a game of who'd find the bonus hair first when we got food from the local Chinese takeaway biggrin

I would have voted with my feet but it was quick and tasty enough that I could overlook the chefs alopecia.

and there was me in a restaurant the other day, and the cook had a contraption that sat off his face, but formed a shield infront of his mouth and nose, to stop him spitting and sneezing in the food.... and a little mask covering his beard..... looked more like a lab tech then a chief hehe great food though, and no hair

can't find an image online though.

The big question is 'straight or curly'.

Very much depends.

Rarely would complain about it if a single hair, but obviously the bigger the ticket the higher the expectations.

Small hair I wouldnt complain about.

A 2 cm bit of metal in a burger I was eating means send it back and get the whole meal compped.

Would it be a beard snood? Commonly used in food production at factory level.

A small hair wouldn't bother me, I would take it out and carry on with my meal.

My daughter's boyfriend is a head chef in a very busy and hot kitchen, I asked him about getting sweaty with all the heat and sweat dripping off into food, he said it happens sometimes.

To be honest, a hair doesn't bother me in my food. Like others I just push it to the side...I wash my hair everyday and it's probably cleaner than a lot of the pots, pans and surfaces they use to prepare and cook that food - let alone the quality of the ingredients used in the majority of pubs are far more of a concern!

But if it was a very expensive dinner, I'd expect less faults, so more likely to point it out and expect some sort of money off and/or free drink etc.

Out for dinner with the family a few years back, ordered scampi. Got about half way through it, thoroughly enjoying it and stuck my fork into a piece, as i lifted it towards my mouth about half a dozen another pieces came swinging off the plate all joined together, like some massive fishy dingleberry, by a very long hair. Called the waitress over and swung it about in front of her, she asked what i wanted her to do about it?
I suggested taking the plate away and bringing me a new serving would be a start. By the time mine arrived, without so much as an apology, everyone else was finished. i'd lost my appetite by then so only ate a couple more bits.
There was a bit of a row over the bill as we refused to pay for it.
