Try a BM with tequila for a Bloody Maria. Tequila has a 'saltiness' which really works.

Yep, and gin is also very nice.

I used to fly SAS a lot and they had this Bloody Mary mix called 'Mr and Mrs T'. Lovely stuff, normally had it with gin and some freshly squeezed lemon!

For me it really has to be lime juice rather than lemon - plus given time I pour the vodka on the zest and mash it around before straining it into the glass.
The horseradish is a must (plus the usual suspects) and the sherry finish works well.

For more than one glass I make it in a mixing bowl and a whisk, much easier to avoid unmixed blobs of horseradish.
