You might be right.

I'll put my hands up and admit that I felt quite safe all the time that I was there.

However, that was 15 years ago. Has it improved?

I admit it, I love Lidl. Covers 95%+ of our shopping requirements, once a month head to the Sainsbury's type for the odd bits and pieces.

Our eating habits have improved massively; we throw out less, we eat far more healthy food and the quality of their products is in my view excellent.

The fact we are in and out in half the time is a winner. I hate the though of heading to the mainstream supermarkets now, they do my head in!

.......Though coming from Surrey you naturally have spare Waitrose bags to disguise your purchases ?

Only if I'm slumming it. I prefer the branded hessian bags from our farmers market. A tad more de rigour around these parts, don't you know.

My sentiments exactly, and I love being able to nip round and do a full shop in 20 minutes. Go to our local mega tesco and the same will take you an hour and cost a fair bit more.

We're saving £30 a week for a family shop compared to Tesco. It's not necessarily a like-for-like shop but the small changes in weekly meals are negligible.

We might top that up with a couple of visits to the local butcher or greengrocer if required but it's still a saving.

I just need to stop buying clothes and shoes from there, as my wife says I look (-and I quote) "st". She's probably right too.

I purchased their shoes once (Converse-lookalikes) - they were st. Glued, not stitched - fell apart in no time. Waste of funds.

My Aldi rigger boots have done decent service working outside over winter.

I bought some cheap deck shoes which have lasted surprisingly well.

On the downside I bought a pullover which shrank uselessly and some socks which have become like tiny felt purses. I also bought some cheap trainers for wearing in the the garden and they were gouging away at my achilles until they spontaneously became melted sandals whilst pushing stuff on a bonfire.

Well I'm soldering on with the my Lidl shopping and things are starting to improve. Bit like getting up your post count on a forum so you can use the sales corner I'm slowly starting to see some of the goodies you guys are talking about.

The goat cheese pastry thingys are delish.

And also with regards to the clothes is there an age where things like this become acceptable? I've been eyeing up one of their hawaian shirts the past couple of trips but the inner snob in me is stopping me from putting one in the trolley.

If you're gonna wear a Hawaiian shirt it might as well be a Lidl one, you're not exactly making a fashion statement biggrin

Your post makes complete sense to me. I've been going to Lidl since last December, and it is only in the last couple of weeks that I have managed to do our main shop there.

The layout of the products is a bit odd. Also, the fact that they will have three different products in a single box took a bit of getting used to. You do have to look very closely to see everything.

Tomorrow, we are off to Aldi to try to get some Wagyu burgers.

The Lidl Chablis is now £8.99 in my local store redface It was £5.49 when I first started buying it frown

However there is currently a worthy contender in the form of Lidl £4.49 Pinot Grigio. A bit low in alcohol at 11.5%, but you could always add a bit of creme de cassis to it.

I was absolutely starving so are this on the way to my next stop. Still warm from being cooked in store and only 59 cents. Greasy and unhealthy with a random cheap sausage in it but hey it was tasty smile

Because the most convenient way to buy food cheaply for the stray dogs / homeless guys looking after them is to use Lidl or Aldi. They're obviously cheaper than any other options, and they're both nearer too.
