Yes.

My answer is about as specific as your question.

Am open to anything, except fast food joints.

When I was last up there with work we went a place call Bem Brazil which is like a buffet style but they come around with these huge skewers of different cuts of meat cooked on their BBQ and you just say if you want it or not by holding up a card.

I'm not really a fan of buffets but if you like meat then it's worth a visit as quite cheap for all you can eat.

Bem Brasil is good but a new arrival on Spinningfields, Fazenda uses the same concept but is ten times better. Their salad buffet table is worthy of the price alone never mind the meat.

Other than that off the top of my head, we have Red's True BBQ (obvious what it sells), Grill on the Alley if you fancy a steak menu, Hawksmoor not very Manchester but newly opened, DogsnDough which is a new York style hot dog and pizza joint along with interesting beers and cocktails, Almost Famous for burgers, Solita for more wacky burgers, the list goes on!

Try www.manchesterconfidential.co.uk as a bit of a guide on food and entertainment for the city.

If you want any particular type of food, reply and I'll try and advise!

Some great recommendations by KFP above:

Agree for
Burgers - Almost Famous
Steak - Hawksmoor
Italian - San Carlo Cicchetti
Spanish - Iberica (went last night, was amazing)
Not quite Michelin star - Manchester House

I've tried thee times to get to Iberica! The first time was around 5pm on a Sunday afternoon. Turns out they close at 4pm on a Sunday. Second time they were closed on a Bank Holiday Monday. Third time was a half hour wait on a Tuesday night so I give up and won't go in out of misplaced, old man, grudge bearing stubbornness. My girlfriend went recently and said it was awesome though.

I know the MD so i'll pass on the feedback. I'm surprised it was shut on the sunday evening and the bank holiday monday.

I went to the pre-opening and found the food excellent.

are you suitably excited for the opening of El Gato Negro on King Street?

Yes! What a coincidence, I only read about this place earlier today from someone giving review on trip advisor for somewhere else. Looks like could be excellent.

Wife & I are going again to Iberica this week for lunch & taking the kids

went to the new NQ one last night, v good indeed.

In all honesty OP isn't asking for restaurant recommendations. He's asking where he eat without feeling like he's a plum on his own. I've been there as i used to travel all over for work. Basically you don't want to be going anywhere with an atmosphere, or anywhere loud or party-ish. A lot of the places around Spinningfields are large enough that you can probably hide in the corner away from other people. I'd probably avoid anywhere in the Northern Quarter, not on food quality, but they're all hipster joints that will make you queue on your tod.

Funnily enough, I went to the NQ one this week for lunch. Food was good but spicy. I handled it ok but my mate struggled a bit. They did say that they had a batch of extraordinarily hot scotch bonnets in.

If it's dining alone, I've happily whiled away an hour or so eating in the bar area at Grill on the Alley. Any of the curry cafes in the NQ are good too for a casual quick lunch. This N That cafe do an amazing rice and three curries for around a fiver if you can find it.

yadga does 2 course curry and a pint for a fiver too!!

In NQ i'd consider going to Marble beerhouse on thomas st, drinking nice ales and eating those v good snacks they have, and playing chess with some strangers.

Just duck down the side street in front of trof. It really is very good despite looking an absolute hole externally.

Heard about this place and we're pretty big fans of evuna so it's definitely going on the list to try!
