Anyone else check out the "Benefits Buffet" at their local supermarket or shop? I know we should all have waitrose stuff helicoptered in twice a week, but I regularly nip down the local co op on the way home and pick up something for tea from the marked down food. It's also rather nice to have something that otherwise may be thrown away.

2 Herb crusted pollock fillets on Thursday for 50p!

Last night, some great breaded Dover Sole fillets for a quid and micro steam in the bag fresh veg for 10p!

I like the fact that it can be anything sitting there ready to be snapped up by a passing tightwad! I've had steaks, and pies for 50p, bags of salad for 5p and a huge box of cream cakes for 20p!

Posy details of your bargains, pics too if you like!

Was at Tesco Brent Park a few weeks ago, wondered what the queue was forming for down the middle of an aisle.

Man with price mark down gun came around the corner.

The best bit is the roll at 14p.....not 15p! They must have thought they'd be lumbered with it at 15p! Lol

My local co-op have atrocious stock control and regularly have even every day items with the "still fresh" sticker on them at half price.

Rump and rib-eye steak for a few quid. Lamb half price etc

Best bit are the wines though. Regularly have wines at £15-20 which nobody buys. Month or so later they're all half price or even less to clear them.

Recently picked up several bottles of 2009 Pago de los Capellanes Crianza for £6.50 which Berry Bros has at £23.45!

Morrisons fish counter is normally worth a look and if you time it right there can be some real bargains. In the past we've had fish pie mix, squid, scallops, salmon fillets etc all for under a quid, sometimes pennies. Tesco seem to get rid of a lot of pies, deli meats and butcher cuts of meat in this way too, again some bargains for joints of topside of beef or lamb joints. Oh and Tesco get rid of a lot of their posh meal stuff this way too (you can sometimes get a £10 meal deal for a fiver or less) Sainsburys never really knocked much off their discount stuff I found.

I love a rake through the jumble sale of discounted foods.

Bag of red potatoes - 25p
Punnet of plums - 25p
Stir fry (veg) - 25p
Stir fry (mushrooms) - 25p

Some supermarkets have problems with their chilled/frozen food management though. Understaffed at times?

When the OH worked on the deli counter our freezer was full to the brim with steaks and the like for next to nothing. The staff on the counters knew what each other liked and made sure they looked after each other.
Bad news when you open the freezer to decide what to have and think "Not bloody steak again!"

I do it all the time. Don't see the problem with it. Guess it depends on how much you're willing to wait.

Plus it's fun elbowing an 80 year old out of the way.

They were chucking away a small crate of Mushrooms because they were about to go off and being tight i can't stand waste
They couldn't give them away so sorted a deal out for 10p smile.
Robbing barsteward couldn't get the price gun to do 10p so i ended up paying 11p mad.

I was in sainsburys once and some chap looked like he didn't have much cash had basically cleared out the bargain bin. He had about 2 trollies of food, literally everything that was there. Once they'd scanned everything the price on the register came out at minus £20 odd quid. Supervisor came over spent ages playing with it, and best he could get it to was 22p. He gave up in the end and gave him the 2 trollies of food for the 22p. The bloke was over the moon!

I heard it was because of the way some buy one get one free offers work, they deduct the price of the meal at the end of the checkout, so a few of them in the system deducted the full price from the discounted price, giving a negative total.

One of the wife's mates was in charge of the repricing in her store, they have specific times that it's done. All the regulars know the times at each supermarket so some spend their days just travelling from store to store grabbing bargains.
She came out of the storeroom with her trolly of reductions and this woman stopped her and demanded that she reprice a side of salmon, she scanned it and it wasn't due to be done for another hour.
Customer got a bit of attitude on and demanded that it was repriced there and then, repricer didn't take the attitude too well so refused.
Customer starts getting a bit shouty and is advised that it's not due for repricing for another hour and she would have to wait.
Half an hour later and more reductions are due, salmon woman appears with side of salmon and demands it's reduced again.
Repricer refuses and tells her she has to wait, customer has a bit of a strop but has no choice but to walk about the store for another hour.
Half an hour later she appears with the salmon again demanding it's repriced, Repricer agrees but tells her she has to take it to the storeroom and will bring it out shortly with the rest of the stuff.
When she brings it back out one of the regulars spots it on her trolly and grabs it before she gets back to the reduced section smile

waitrose daily reduce stuff.... I've noticed people buying just their knock down stuff.... usually with still a few days left on best before date as well

It is like throwing bread out for the birds though, as they all flock in on the reduced trollies in mass

it seems to be catching.

Just picked up 1.75 kilo pork shoulder for 2.50 and 6 beef tomatoes for 89p that aren't even ripe yet!
