Does anyone regularly make kebabs at home?
I'm really quite keen to try it out myself. a large at the local is £6-7 for 2 skewers of chicken breast + veg. im sure the same could be done at home for less than half.

But with no BBQ, or gas grill, or griddle pan.. how do you make it? One has a fan oven at home with an electric grill (at the top of the oven).

Obviously its not feasible to do doner meat. so some kinda chicken kebab using cut up thigh meat I suppose.

This would be the best £28.99 you've ever spent. I use mines at least 4 times a week.

I make Lamb Koftas a lot. Also Smoked Maldon salt really adds a barbeque flavour to food cooked on the cooker.

We do quite often, usually Friday night. We use BBQ so does not help you.
We also found some really good pre packed naan from Booths which come out really nice on the BBQ after 60 secs each side.

Find your local Asian cash and carry/supermarket and get everything you need there.

I've just been to mine and I've got chicken tikka for less than half the price of a kebab shop. Big deep trays full of chicken in different sauces, full breast piri piri, lamb, everything you'd get in a takeaway. Don't ask for bacon.

And for the authentic experience they also do kebab containers, catering size pans and vegetables I don't think have been named in English. They also do 2l Pepsi for 89p.

And 21 different types of dates from every middle eastern country. I didn't think anyone liked dates but they must go through pallets a week.

I love it, I get some funny looks but never had a problem.

This. The doner recipe is now a firm family favourite - my son asks me every other week to make it! He's done so since he was 8!

I've made it a few times, it's very good! I've recently started buying frozen doner meat from Iceland, it's not as good but easy to cook.

I'm making it right now.

No blow touch, so will roll it all over the bbq.

The inside of the Heinz Baked Bean tin I used had a lip on the inside and was therefore a bit of a Struggle to get out.

Ended up using a tin opener on the bottom of the can.

However, the smell is making my mouth flood.

I doubt it's top quality but I just got one in the post today actually from Amazon.

25cm square cast iron griddle pan for a tenner delivered.

looking forward to seasoning it and using it for steaks and chargrilled veg... even going to try pizza in it but not sure how much the griddle lines will affect the outcome but I'll use it for chargrilling and searing stuff more, so it had to be a griddle pan.

These are my home made chicken kebabs albeit done on the bbq although simple enough to do in a fan oven or normal oven until just cooked and then finish off under the grill to crisp up.

Thanks. It's my take on a chicken donner/shawarma thing.

Boneless and skinless chicken thighs x 6 in the following marinade - whole bunch of garlic mashed up in my mortar and pestle with lemon zest, fresh thyme, harissa paste plus some salt, pepper, hot and sweet smoked paprika then add the lemon juice and some oil until you get a not too runny or thick consistency. Marinate meat over night.

Then build it on the skewer I find half an onion on each end makes it easier to push it together as your cooking it I also add some slices of sweet red pepper and tomato in between each layer of the chicken.

Then cook it indirect with lid on but quite close to the coals and then check and turn it every 5-10 mins or so, added some pecan wood chips last night as it was cooking to give an extra smokey flavour. Took about 40-50mins I use one of those thermopens to check the temp.

I paid £20 for a solid very heavy square cast iron griddle pan from TK Maxx. The outside is even enamelled. Makes very good steaks.

Dont judge a shop for some of its items. If you are prepared to put a little bit of effort in you can find some cracking items in TK Maxx.
