Chicken, lamb steak, chick peas on rice with two chappatis. Or a garlic naan.

Tap water from the jug and maybe a cake from Home Sweet Home on the way back.

no. A good show, expensive, food not worth it.

FFS!!! It's 11:20am on a Wednesday, I'm feeling a bit peckish and someone on the internet mentions This and That. I absolutely guarantee I'll either be in there, "red chairs" or "green chairs" within the next hour. It's impossible to resist once the idea gets in my head. Rice and three with a chapati on the side, yum yum. wink
Is it still the same NQ place? No signboard, dodgy back alley but queues out the door?

Yep, still in the same spot. They did open a new place round the corner from Spinningfields a few years ago, to the rear of Mojo, but it didn't really work and lasted less than a year. It's still trading as something similar but by a different operator.

Hi there,

I am lucky to be able to have some of the city's best restaurants as customers of mine so hopefully the below should be of some use.

Rosso - Italian food, great ambience and some of the best cocktails in the city. Definitely one to check out.

The French - my personal favourite for the wow factor, recently refurbished so am just waiting to go back and give it another try.

Manchester House - it was ok, a little to showy for my liking and very expensive. Some of the dishes were superb though.

47 King St West - only a small restaurant but family owned and with a great chef it really is a little gem

Solita - as mentioned above a great experience for a true 'dirty' burger

Reds True BBQ - again a bit like Solita but their Doughnut Burger is a true experience

Mr Coopers - another from the Simon Rogan stable and almost as good as The French

Fazenda - a great concept and superb venue, certainly one to do at some point if you get chance

James Martin - ignore the fact its at the rear of the casino and its superb. Been a couple of times and have not been disappointed.

San Carlo Fumo - another Italian but a slightly different concept from the traditional San Carlo sites.

Personally I am looking forward to sampling Tattu, Hawksmoor, Iberica, Wahaca, and Asha's (when it opens in September).

Hope this helps.

Regards

Tim
Cheers Tim !

Manchester's sweet spot is not fine dining. There are however a plethora of dirty or hearty food places:

Solita
Red's
el capo
almost famous
luck, lust, liquor and burn
bourbon and black
dogs and dough
crazy pedros
trof
kosmonaut
splendid kitchen
any of the chophouses
turtle bay

good guide here http://www.onionring.co.uk/Manchester/

hawksmoor is excellent though... also there are a ton of brunch spots for the next day so don't waste money getting breakfast in the hotel.

Iberica
La Bandera
Wahaca
Salvi's

The French is pretty much the only fine dining place though.
