Very thin, not a lot of toppings, charred black 'bubbles' round the edge, crispy as a crisp. Magnificent.
The very best pizzas I've tasted had bases exactly like that; it just lifts the flavour of the whole thing. Off topic, one of those best pizzas was in a restaurant in Saverne near Strasbourg of all places! Then again, that part of the world has a speciality called tarte flambee which has a pizza-like base.

So which variant would you recommend?
I've only tried the original, but after Musky's comments on the honey one I'm going to give that one a try! Thanks for the heads up!

It seems odd to me that when I mention the wonderful pizzas of Rome a lot of people say that this is their favourite type of pizza too, yet most pizza places in the UK sell those horrible thick stodgy bases that they then seem to shovel on as much cheese substitute and cheap toppings as possible.

Asda have started selling fresh pizza base dough by Gino D'campo, they come rolled up and you add your own topping and bake. £1.50 and superb, very authentic.
Hmm, I'm very curious about this. Normally I buy the £1.50 asda "meat speciale" stonebaked frozen pizza. or I will opt for a pizza counter stonebaked. OR one of the £4 asda extra special ones. I would be very curious to see how this tastes, especially nowadays how I like adding my own toppings and making a vegetarian pizza.dazco said:
Any idea if a thread exists to find out people's favourite styles of pizza?

Id say there is two types of pizza trade,It seems odd to me that when I mention the wonderful pizzas of Rome a lot of people say that this is their favourite type of pizza too, yet most pizza places in the UK sell those horrible thick stodgy bases that they then seem to shovel on as much cheese substitute and cheap toppings as possible.
The feed the family, football watching, beer drinking, filling fast food trade
And the romantic meal out, night in with a bottle of wine trade.
I dont think there is one type of pizza that should be served everywhere and it's horses for courses (hopefully not in the pizza go-go meatballs for mains sense).

That sounds great but what is authentic?I have just come back from Rome and the pizzas there are sublime , for my taste.

Oddly, usually served on a cold plate.
How would you describe this base by Mr D'campo from Yorkshire.
Incidentally my brother unintentionally went into his restaurant in Manchester, for lunch, and declared it to be fantastic.
I say unintentionally, he intentionally entered the restaurant but was unaware of it's celebrity owner
Decided to go to Sainsburys yesterday as Asda was absolutely rammed. Picked up a Chicken and Chorizo paella as it was reduced and although I took most of the red and green peppers out (and there were a lot!) but after that it was really good. Nice bit of spice throughout too. Recommended.
