New one for you all: me and the Mrs have been importing a certain BBQ sauce from the states for years, we actually found a source in Dubai that was importing and selling it also so we were importing it from both sides of the world at one point! It's the best BBQ sauce we have ever tried.

Cue our surprise when the Mrs saw it sitting on a shelf in Sainsbury last week. It's called "Sweet Baby Ray's" BBQ Sauce, there are 3 different variants. I've just found out that Tesco also has it after looking at the following marketing site:

http://www.sweetbabyrays.co.uk/

Would be interested to hear anyone's feedback that tries it!
The honey one is fantastic, best BBQ sauce I have had by miles. Perfect balance of sweetness and not much smoke that suits me just right. Not tried the other 2, don't think they can be much more suited to my taste than the honey one so haven't bothered. Not always available so bought 8 bottles just before Christmas to see me through the off season till summer.

Edit: I've only ever seen it in Tesco

When I read on the side of a packet of a peanut butter cups, that the company uses a toxic chemical in replace of Cocoa butter because it is cheaper, I am not a fan of American food stuffs..

Morrison’s Jam doughnuts - the fresh ones in the bakery area.

If you can get them in the morning when they are fresh, they are about the best doughnuts that I have ever had. 5 for 60p IIRC.

All that jazz

So which variant would you recommend?
I've only tried the original, but after Musky's comments on the honey one I'm going to give that one a try!

Not much health food in here! biggrin

Some good tips though.

My local Sainsburys make their own pizzas. Massive things with generous toppings for only £3.

Meat feast is a favourite.

Asdas own sloppy joe frozen pizza, better than any takeaway and only a quid fifty a pop. also from asda fire dog smokehouse sausages and oscar meyer american smoked bacon. very fatty and brilliant chopped and put in omlettes or crispy on burgers. not seen these in any other supermarket.

The co-op's truly irresistible pizza, specifically the salami and mozzarella one. £4.50 and worth every penny, especially when compared to the usual big frozen offerings.

Review and picture here, although it has been improved since that review and now has more toppings. smile

We recently tried Co-Op's "Loved By Us" standard Margarita pizza, and it was a bloody revelation.

Really good base dough and tomato sauce, just the right amount of mozz and a good (but not overpowering) hit of basil.

Asda's own brand crab pate is our favourite. Lots of taste but availability can be patchy, the OH couldn't find any one day so bought a smoked salmon pate instead. Got it home and a sticker on the foil seal said 'crab'. Result!

On a completely different level, Morrisons own brand cheapo frozen pizzas for £1 are surprisingly decent. The base dough isn't the chewy cardboard that you might expect but actually very light and fluffy, both the thin and deep pan varities. Can't go wrong for a quid!

Asda have started selling fresh pizza base dough by Gino D'campo, they come rolled up and you add your own topping and bake. £1.50 and superb, very authentic.

That sounds great but what is authentic?

I have just come back from Rome and the pizzas there are sublime , for my taste.
Very thin, not a lot of toppings, charred black 'bubbles' round the edge, crispy as a crisp. Magnificent.

Oddly, usually served on a cold plate.

How would you describe this base by Mr D'campo from Yorkshire.

Incidentally my brother unintentionally went into his restaurant in Manchester, for lunch, and declared it to be fantastic.
I say unintentionally, he intentionally entered the restaurant but was unaware of it's celebrity owner

Smoked salmon scraps - approx £1.40 from Tesco and Asda (other supermarkets may do them too). Perfect for making risotto.
My local full-size Tesco stopped selling the offcuts ages ago. Sainsbury's does them though.

I've used this, pretty good emergency substitute for home made. Keep a roll in the freezer now for "emergencies".
