Is the tasting list finalised?
Nope.

The number of people we have determines the budget, hence the 11 October cutoff for payment.

Last time I gave TWE a brief and made a request to include something Japanese as many of us had never tried it. The brief I gave them this time was that we have a wide range of tastes and experience so the oddball / unusual ones would be good to include.

If there are requests than we will try and incorporate them where possible.

Thank you for your request, your tasting night has been switched to the "JD experience" evening.

Please remember, that dressing as a "hair metal" band member is obligatory.

I hope TWE is going to have some of Dalwhinnies Winter Sun in. (currently showing as out of stock) I've been told it's lovely from a mate but I'd like one of these as a birthday gift for the weekend after the going to a party the weekend after the event.
I'll be speaking to them in a bit - i'll ask.

Excellent - I was going to phone them this morning once I'm finished with this conference call but if you can that would be great.
I need to speak to them about numbers... we initially spoke about 10 people, so will update them.

Update

Just a bit of an update for everyone...

We have 18 people for the tasting night, and it's all paid and confirmed with TWE Vinopolis. smile

For those who came last year, our host is the same as last time - Chris. His choices were good last year, and I'm inclined to leave him to it again this year. We've had a chat and his suggestions are interesting and there is pretty much everything covered.

I'll be back with further updates in the next few days, along with directions for those who haven't been before, as well as sorting out pre-meet drink and post-tasting food.

Looking forward to it smile

No obligation to do either... but if you fancy it...

Pre-tasting meet / drink
1) Random pub (TBD)
2) The Blue Bar at Vinopolis - http://vinopolis.co.uk/eat-drink/bar-blue/

Post-tasting food
1) Wagamamas (opposite)
2) Burger & Lobster (a taxi there and a taxi back)

Any preferences people?

Really fancy burger & lobster, but the thought of shepherding a bunch of slightly squiffy people into cabs doesn't fill me with much joy. The nearest one is a ten minute cab ride away (Threadneedle St) and closes at 22:30.

Wagamamas is open till 23:00 and is less than 100ft away...

shout OK people - here's the plan...

Pre-tasting drinks
  • If anyone fancies a drink, I'd suggest the Blue Bar as it's part of Vinopolis.
  • Not the cheapest, but means you're in the right place. Variety of drinks and nibbles available for typical London prices!
  • There is no obligation to join us!

Getting to TWE
  • The tasting starts at 19:30 - TWE suggest you get there from 19:00
  • If there just before 19:00 you can get to TWE via Laithwaites - just walk to the back of the shop
  • Otherwise, enter through the Blue Bar (as above) and walk through to TWE.
  • There are plenty of people at Vinopolis to point you in the right direction
  • I will email out a couple of contact numbers in case you have any issues!

The Tasting
  • 6 interesting drams, covering a wide range of styles and tastes
  • It's a blind taste, then a reveal before moving onto the next whisky
  • Pending stock, you can purchase whisky at the end of the tasting
  • They have a few casks of bottle your own if you fancy something different
  • They also sell non-whisky stuff, apparently.

Post-tasting munchies
  • For anyone who doesn't have a train to catch, we're going for some grub afterwards
  • Wagamamas is located a mere 100ft away - and open till 23:00

See you next week beer
