Mushrooms are empirically disgusting. True ruin-er of many a pasta.

Everyone thinks vegetarians want a portobello mushroom sandwich or burger.

I wouldn't touch a wild mushroom unless you know someone who is an expert at identifying them.

Get it wrong and they could kill you or cause you serious damage (the bloke who wrote 'The Horse Whisperer' had kidney failure from mushroom poisoning).

Suspect Russula emetica - aka the Beechwood Sickener. Poisonous.

Suspect Coprinus comatus (shaggy ink cap), which is edible while still at the 'drumstick' stage.

Suspect Collybia butyracea (butter cap). Not edible.

Suspect Leccinum scabrum (brown birch bolete). These are edible but mushy and tasteless.

Amanita muscaria ( fly agaric). Poisonous.

Your best bet is to go out for a mushroom tutorial with an expert. I note your profile says Yorkshire - look on Facebook for local groups, or google either Lisa Cutcliffe, or Mina Said-Alsopp. They're based near you and do guided walks, although it may be a bit of a scrum to get on one.

Whatever you do, don't post pictures on the net and ask strangers to ID if you're intending to eat your fungi finds. A lot goes into identification, and it's difficult to do it from a photograph alone.

Amanita muscaria ( fly agaric)

This one is edible(and hallucinagenic), but as already mentioned it's toxic if it's not cooked properly.
It's often found with white spots although these can be washed off in the rain.
If you're not 110% sure what they are best leave them alone.

IMO Mushrooms are food for the Devil anyways 😝

nono

Not remotely edible. Please, no-one be stupid enough to try. The active component is muscarine, which slows your heart rate and restricts breathing.

The toxins in A. muscaria are water-soluble.
