Anyone heard of these?

I saw a video a while back on youtube about the maker Ben. He makes 5 knives a week and sells the at 1pm on a friday. Weve been trying to get one for a few weeks, and managed yesterday to get a small paring knife. :-)

All hand made in Derby

Is this the guy who folds and folds and folds....

If so, I saw the program and the knives look lovely.

Just down the road from us, might have to take the kids for a look around if he's up for it.

The knives look lovely. I'm sure the mortgage could miss a month, so I could get the case & three knife set....

I have 3 knives on order with him. There was a 19 month waiting list when I got on it. Should be ready in time for August 2016...

Blimey.... I dont think he is taking orders at the moment, I emailed him last week to ask. You got in there early by the sounds of it. :-)

He closed the book in June, glad I got in when I could. I've ordered two pairing knives and a chefs knife, so it's a good thing I've got till next year to pay for them! Will update on purchases when they arrive.

IS IT FRIDAY YET?

Every Friday at 1.00pm we add our latest knives below. They are all one offs and are sold on a first come first served basis.

I expect the demand caught him out and he is trying to find a balance. He must have closed the order book and just opted to sell five knives a week whilst he simultaneously plods through the order book.

At present, all knives are out of stock. Handle Wax is available (34 in stock).

Therefore, knife numbers offered for sale will be really low.

He was taking orders but as above stopped taking any more orders in June.

He makes 5 knifes a week and at 1pm on Friday he lists them on the website, fastest finger first. Once you are successful you have 10 minutes to complete the checkout, otherwise it gets released back for sale.

It came.... No expense spent on the packaging. Wrapped in brown paper, in a cardboard tube.

Its bigger than I thought, says 4"on the website but its more like 5" actual size.

Why such a high price? I've just been looking on Japanese Chefs Knives: You can get pairing knives there, made out of uber steels that have been repeatedly folded to give the 'Damascus' look for far less. Japanese labour rates aren't that much different from ours are they, certainly not at the Chinese sweatshop level.

A few years ago he was a frustrated creative in a desk job and, after watching a YouTube video explaining how to make knives, he decided to give it a go.

You can also get Japanese knives that cost way more. http://www.japaneseknifecompany.com/products/knive...

I assume the cheaper Japanese ones aren't hand made.
