We have found ourselves enjoying good gin more and more these days, and having tried most of the big brand stuff available in supermarkets from Bombay Sapphire and Tanquaray to the likes of Sipsmiths and Blackwoods etc, we set of to the Good Food Show yesterday on a sampling mission to buy some good quality Gin.

Gin of the day for us was Pickerings, a fairly new small Edinburgh distillery.

They had 3 gins available, their regular Gin based on an old 1947 recipe but adapted to modern tastes, a navy strength version of this (57.1%), and the original 1947 Bombay recipe gin which is more spicy, less Juniper and nothing like you expect a modern gin to taste like at all.

All three were amazing, and it was so difficult to chose which to buy we got one of each!

Anyone else have recommendations on interesting/craft/small batch gin's or whatever they are called, for when this lot runs out?

Doesn't come better than either Warner and Edwards or Monkey 47 IMO.

Sadly my GP has prescribed some 'no alcohol allowed' medication but last weekend this accidentally found its way into my trolley at Sainsburys. It's a bit pricey at £2.30 but it's an absolute delight to drink - delicate flavours, very light and refreshing. If I could, I'd add a bottle of Bloom's gin and some Fentiman's tonic to my drinks cupboard.

A friend of a friend has started manufacturing Gin, here's their website ForestGin, I tried some at the weekend and although I'm not a Gin drinker it tasted pretty reasonable.

After a visit to Islay, and exceeding my life time whisky allowance, I tried Botanist Gin, very pleasant.

Used to be a Bombay Sapphire and Tanquery man myself but have since moved onto Beafeater 24 and Monkey 47.

Just use a decent tonic. Waitrose own brand or Fentimans are definitely the best. Throw the Schwepps stuff in the bin.

Nothing wrong with Schweppes, it's better than most out there.

Fentimans is fantastic but I would much rather have Schweppes than Fevertree, which is quite well regarded.

Chase do a good one.
I haven't tried it but I can't fault their vodkas. Have bought a gin for my Mrs for Christmas.

If any gin fans are after a Christmas gift this year. Have a look on the Ginstitute website for a tasting voucher. Well worth the money for the tasting and the history behind gin.

I like a drop of Brockmans. I was at Taste the other weekend and tried a few and fell for Sipsmiths winter gin. 2 shots of std gin with tonic and sloe gin on top. My new favorite way to have gin. smile

Bought my sis a bottle of this for her birthday last year and having being allowed to sample it, was very impressed, especially for something you can pick up in Morrisons!

It's not hugely unknown but I find Hendricks gin to be excellent.
