I wonder how profitable a good Chinese or Indian takeaway is in a busy spot?
It is for some takeaways but I've spoken to a few owners who seemingly work on much smaller margins once all their costs are taken into account. One way around it was to charge a higher price for your food on JustEat and a low one on your paper menu for walk ins and phone orders. JustEat have clamped down on it recently. They've also stopped owners from running multiple shops from one machine.
Another issue a lot of takeaway owners are now having is that the tax man is now (rightfully) coming after them as all their transactions are on the books and they can no longer fiddle their accounts.

Deliveroo really took a huge chunk out of JustEat, it's why JustEat are now fulfilling deliveries themselves/through third party delivery companies. They've literally got fleets of guys on electric mopeds positioned waiting for orders to come through and they are getting charged £5 a delivery.

They lose around 15% to just eat. He wants your direct business.

Very high gross profit margins - many are run by families so as much cash as possible is kept within the family.I wonder how profitable a good Chinese or Indian takeaway is in a busy spot?
So really it comes down to how they pay for the property.
If they own the property it's a serious gold mine.
Long hours and unglamorous hard work though

The moped wars coming to high street near you soon. 😂. Is there any overlap from just eat to Deliveroo? Ie takeaways doing both? I thought Deliveroo were higher end food? desolate said:

There's some (but not much) overlap where I am in NW London. UberEATS is now also in the market so I'm guessing they'll have to reach out to restaurants that have yet to sign up to either JE or Deliveroo.markcoznottz said:
Really gruelling, long hours like you said, plus unsociable and out of hours stuff as well, organising leaflet drops, stock deliveries, and general prep.
Yup this and more, I worked with a Consultant who was fairly senior at one of the Big four, yet evenings and weekends he was was expected to do his bit in his parents takeaway.easytiger123 said:

Couple of busy days in the capital, couldn't face dragging the kids along to eat out, so skimmed just eat first night, and hungry house the second.
Should have stuck to the first one (pizza, kebab) as although portions weren't huge, the pizzas were good. The second night pizzas all mysteriously developed jalapeños when not required. But I fancied SFC, so we had to try the second one.
Collecting takeaway at the hotel entrance always feels shady, but that may be part of the appeal?

Got me an UberEats code to use today, should be good for a free lunch! - hopefully something disgustingly unhealthy to really appease my colleagues
ETA it was ok!
if anybody in London wants £10 off a lunch/a free lunch/dinner feel free to use the code:

I can't consider myself a pistonhead; I don't even drive (the shame) but I LOVE these threads and have been following them for some time, getting hungry each time I check-in, lurking from the shadows, rubbing my belly and salivating.
Well, tonight, I decided I'd register and share some of the monstrosities I consume.
I have an XL Chicken Parmo on route. I've told them to leave the chips because eating chips means less room for delicious, greasy, cheesy parmo. I am, of course, getting salad, but only lettuce and onion. And then there's the mandatory 1 x tub of garlic and 1 x tub of chilli.
I'll be honest, I feel a bit ashamed 'cos I'm meant to be on a diet but the missus is at work, also meant to be dieting, and she is chomping down on a large Dominos pizza so this just evens things up.
