You are a true curry aficionado if you've ordered a puri. Light fluffy unleavened flaky bread DEEP FRIED for that extra oily goodness. Good on you.

If there is a spiritual home for the filthy takeaway then the sad, gloomy, artificial fibres and cheap laminates of a Travelodge room, steeped in all the tragic loneliness of a man far away from his loved ones, sweatily interfering with himself to low quality internet porn, has to be it. Effort sir.

And with every effort made to come under the nightly budget of £20 to include takeaway and the £5 bottle of red just out of shot.

Which you didn't realise was corked rather than screw top so you find yourself googling ways to break in to the bottle without a corkscrew.

That plastic fork won't do it but a chopstick will, as long as you don't mind a few red wine stains on the carpet.

I speak from experience.

Indeed.

The Best Western Bolholt hotel in Bolton back in 2005 - picture the scene...

A young Tom (25) away with work and solo in a less than thriving town, in need of a few drinks to unwind after a particularly stressful "product development meeting" which contained absolutely zero development of any kind.

After daring to venture to The Wagon, their local which to my surprise was fairly welcoming, I'd asked the barman which takeaways were best locally. He gave me directions to an indian nearby and I carried on drinking until I needed food.

An open kitchen greeted me at this particular takeaway. once my order was placed I watched with interest the Bangladeshi gent make my murgh makhani or whatever I'd ordered.

Off I staggered in to the night back to The Bolholt, swiftly past reception feeling guilty about my bounty, and in to room 219 to devour my feast.

Delicious. Best curry in a while. Scoffing with gusto. Jesus I feel pissed.

Just as I reached for my glass of tepid bathroom tap water I knocked the foil container of meat and gravy on to the carpet. Oh st. White towel from the bathroom to the rescue, huge stain on carpet, ruined towel that looked like I'd st all over it. Yellow finger nails.

Did I care? Did I fk. I was pissed, full, knackered and needed to sleep. So I did.

Can you imagine the smell in there with me digesting it overnight - not to mention the open curries on the dressing table.

I woke up feeling awful. Dreadful. With garlic breath, a bubbling gut and yellow finger nails. I left a note about the towel with my apologies.

I have told that tale on here before but I've no idea where.

That's not fair.
Not here. Not like this.
All I see is a modest pizza and a handful of tasty appetisers.
