I've only ever sampled poutine once and it was in Leeds, I was really excited but ultimately disappointed as it was quite "sour" in taste. I presume this isn't normal and they had gone bonkers with parmesan or something?

I think they had used curds and parmesan in some kind of weird attempt to "posh it up"

Poutin is meant to be the finest of junk food though, isn't it? It sounds a bit like "Sous Vide Cod in a craft ale batter, with 7 times fried chips, delicately drizzled with a raspberry coulis" - trying to make it out to be an Haute Cuisine dish when THAT IS NOT WHAT IT IS MEANT TO BE!
I'd rather have the one in the box. furious

Me too, it's what I expected and hoped for, it also turned my favourite place to go for food into somewhere I'm not too fussed about going back to, they betrayed me with poutine.

On a positive note this means I'm trying somewhere else on Friday:

Almost Famous is not bad at all - can I ask where the poutine was from?

I've tried to get in AF in Manchester a couple of times and failed due to poor planning so I'm quite keen.

The poutine was from Stampede (formerly Cattlegrid) - I used to love it at the old place but not so keen since they moved. Hopefully the ribs are still awesome though.

Just looked at the website and I'm hungry. Shame I'm many miles from any of them. Open places in the West Mids please.

Both AF and luck lust liquor & burn are semi regular haunts for us. Dirty dirty but so bloody good!

Couple of others:

Solita for burgers
Yard & coop for proper fried chicken

I'm heading into the NQ this afternoon to meet a mate for beers so no doubt one of these 4 will be the pitstop.

last nights takeaway, was bloody lovely. a mixed kebab consisting of a pile of elephant leg with a load of tandoori chicken underneath. chilli wings and spicy potatoes.. they were awesome. the takeaway was trialing them with regulars to see how they went and were free smile
