Quick trip to Wilmow Road whilst I’m on the wrong side of the Pennines
Looks good. I would ask though where is the rest of the chicken ? Bread to meat ratio way out of whack. wink
I’ll second that. Which establishment? I would’ve been whinging about that particularly on an eat in? Was it rusholme chippy? It’s fallen off a cliff when it comes to quality recently
It may look like that in the picture but surprisingly the balance was right.

Establishment was Al Jazeera, slightly nicer interior than Rusholme Chippy

Gotcha. Looks like 2 chicken shish skewers tbf that’s perfect for a girl. Just add lamb shish and doner next time to avoid confusion. Abduls a little further down in Wilmslow rd is also always a winner.
In my defence I wanted a mix grill but the card machine was broken and I couldn’t be arsed walking half a mile up the road for a free to use cash machine. Had a tenner in my pocket and the bill came to £9.97

Aye, age old classic. I work for a company that builds ordering platforms for takeaways and restaurants. Seen plenty of tricks from places over the years!

Takeaway carves up the elephant leg and then fries it off in a pan with chilli sauce and sometimes chucks in some chillies. At least that’s how I’ve seen it being done

What’s the general consensus folks, are we still ordering takeaways as normal or are we cutting back in light of the impending apocalypse?

Seems everyone is offering no contact deliveries when you pay by card

Some interesting replies to my question. I’ve been trying to cut down whilst I’m attempting to shift some timber but given my asthma I’ll probably end up ordering some deliveries.

Double piri burger meal that I had yesterday, extra hot to clear out the sinuses. Acts as a great decongestant!

My first post on this thread as a long-time lurker and occasionally horrified admirer of Eski's work. It's frankly our moral duty to support local businesses in these amazing times. From my self-isolated position I'll be throwing some money Chutney Massalla's way come Friday.
Use them or lose them!
As someone close to the hospitality industry, I couldn't agree more.

Find out which of your local places are open, and spend what you can with them. If you want to see them again when we get out the other side of this slump, they'll need every penny.

I ordered a pizza from our wonderful little local Italian restaurant last night, and it came with a thank you note in the bag.
Glad to hear, as someone whose bread and butter is inextricably linked with small independent takeaways (we provide ordering platforms for takeaways and restaurants) I hope more people do the same.

Will drop you a reply over the next few days.

Chicken donner on garlic naan with proper chips tonight. We decided to end our usual collection takeaway runs with an old favourite which I sent a family member to go get since I’m stuck indoors. Doily game is still strong.

I guess with McD it’s more a financial case, given how busy they are I imagine the majority of the orders are from people eating in. They switched to drive thru only a few days ago but even that won’t be enough to cover the overheads.

I seriously hope the regular indie takeaways remain open, otherwise panic buying will just get worse

They weren't drive through only, you could still go in and order to take away, and they had the delivery service.
“Previously, the fast food giant had closed its seating areas but had continued to offer takeaway and drive-through services.”

That’s what I’ve read on several articles. Maybe it was only the franchises that kept the seated areas open? Granted I’ve not left the house for several days

Spoons can get ducked, owner has proven once again how much of a prize plum he is. Granted I don’t drink so it makes sod all difference to me.

A lot of takeaways shifting to card payment only and contactless delivery. Sensible!

Are people not concerned about the risk of infection from the take away/ delivery staff contaminating the food or packaging that the food comes in?
Nope, granted I’ve not had any takeaway for around a week and a half now but planning to get one later this week. Will just follow the guidelines

A dense chicken burger from the other night. Big hunk of fried chicken, a few slices of mozzarella and then a few fried cheese rings

I know of places round these parts that go one step further. Beef pattie, chicken fillet, donner meat, hash brown, cheese slice and a bit of lettuce to keep it healthy.

Alas I don’t eat donner meat otherwise I’d try one and report back

KFC burgers have always been a let down for me, the only exception is the mini fillet burger.

The combo of beef and chicken all depends on the quality of the beef burger for me. Had some cheapo ones that didn’t work, the 99p ones

Maybe it’s a southern thing? Spoken to a few northern takeaway owners since lockdown began who started offering free delivery within their usual 3 miles radius just to ensure orders kept coming in and people didn’t come to collect.

On the flip side I spoke to a handful who were unable to get any delivery drivers in so were having to close temporarily.

My usual places have reduced their radius but haven’t changed their prices. Makes sense given just how busy most takeaways are. I guess with the commission they pay on some platforms some of them have had to increase prices.

How do kebab shops get away with it?
I don’t drink but I’ve spent an awful lot of time around my mates who do. I was essentially the designated driver and pisshead herder in my early 20s. The state of some of the grotty donners I’ve seen them eat can’t be described. When someone is that trollied they can’t taste the difference between fresh elephant leg, microwaved bucket leg or 3 day old bucket leg
