Why is it impossible to find a decent toaster ?
Discussion
All toast should be cooked in your oven to get equally baked bread.
If you need something on your worktop then
Magimix clear
It's a design icon and you can watch your toast go brown. Dogs bks

Toasts the bread very evenly across the slice.
That's a nice looking toaster but reading the reviews the kettle doesn't match!http://www.johnlewis.com/graef-4-slice-long-slot-t...

But if you put your bread in the oven you are baking it, not toasting it.

I wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer but finding a 4-slice toaster which toasts the whole slice is like looking for a unicorn. They all seem to leave the top of the slice undone.

More annoying is most toasters that won't fit a slice of Warburtons in due to it being longer than 'normal'.
Thread revival, as I have just bought a Cookworks Pyramid 4 slice toaster (£39.99 Argos) that accepts slices of Warburtons Toastie bread, both vertical and horizontally. The bread does stick out a little when placed vertically, but horizontally has that covered..

Horizontal...

I've never understood toast bread, is it actually different to normal bread?
Thought it had a square cross section so it would fit in most toasters with no problems - issue I found on my previous toaster was that Hovis White was too tall for it and when it died most of the options were a similar size. Toaster bread is meant to get round this - probably a US inventionBacon Is Proof said:
That's all well and good, but nothing beats taking a large loaf, cutting a massive slice off lengthways and sticking it under your open gas grill, just because you can.
You can have starter/main/dessert (butter/marmite/jam) all on one colossal piece of toast!
Why have I never tried this? Now I just need to try and get to my local supermarket early enough to intercept a loaf before the slice it. What is their obsession with slicing every single bloody loaf? You can have starter/main/dessert (butter/marmite/jam) all on one colossal piece of toast!
I've yet to find a toaster to beat a cheap supermarket own brand long slot thick and thin toaster. Long slots mean you can actually fit a slice of bread in it, and the thick an thin adjusters mean you can have proper chunky toast not ridiculously thin sliced rubbish....if you can find a shop that doesn't insist on slicing every bloody loaf! Disadvantage of being back in the office, I could make a nice fresh loaf for lunch when I was WFH.

Find a local bakery, ours is so good it has a massive queue every single weekend, but it moves quickly. To be fair we have actually got a couple of decent local bakeries, but they close before I could get there on a week day and I keep forgetting to go on a Saturday. I've been trying to get in to the habit of WFH on Thursdays as that's our local market day and a stand there does a very nice spelt sourdough loaf, although I struggle to not also buy an unnecessary quantity of muffins/pastries/cakes/cookies from them, and never manage to get past the 2 cheese stands with my wallet unscathed in order to get to the bakery stand.
