Did anyone enter the ballot for the 2016 Laphroaig Cairdeas?
Yes, entered for 2 bottles. Not going to win it though - think the last time I won a competition was when I was 12, and that was winning a bottle of Pina Colada which I wasn't allowed to claim because of my age! whoami said:

How was the bottle you got last week?
Good question. Podie?
You're advised to pour a dram and add a little water. You then have to select the 6 things you can identify from a chart - and rate whether they are high, medium or low.
Then you taste the whisky and pick out the 6 flavours (as you do with the nose).
At the end of that, you get a score that marks how good you are. As a gimmick, it's quite entertaining and does show what preconceptions you get about whisky from the colour and tasting notes.
The whisky itself is a nice, enjoyable Glenlivet. Realistically, it's a £60-70 bottle of scotch, rather than the £110 it costs.
Anyone tried Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold?
It came recommended to me to drink it, not with ice , but cooled in the freezer for a while before drinking. I quite often do this with a nice vodka, but had never tried it with whisky before. I stuck it in the freezer last weekend and tried it last night (Thursday) about 9pm at the end of a hot sweltering day.
It was a revelation, a cool refreshing drink but with all the flavours of a nice whisky that in spite of the cold, left the usual warm glow in the throat an stomach. The cold made the texture just a little thicker and creamier.
The whisky itself is light and sweet, like a typical Speyside malt but presumably because of the temperature, even more easy to drink. I could easily have had at least a half dozen as opposed to my usual couple of glasses max.
Looking forward to the next hot day to have another glass or two.

It's not just Hibiki. All Nippon whiskies have gone through the roof and the more mainstream bottlings are riding on the coat tails of the silly prices. Just like the Classic cars market really.
Podie. More information please. Looks interesting (and I cannot be bothered trying to use the internet on my phone in the middle of nowhere )
