Ah...the constantly evolving whisky shelf...
A view taken tonight...a mostly Islay influence although I am keen on the Aberlour A'bunadh releases too.
The Auchentoshan was an itch I felt needed scratching but won't be bothering with again in a hurry...too smooth and bland for me.
The dark stuff in the ex-Monkey Shoulder bottle is blackberry liqueur using a bottle of Famous Grouse as a base a year or so ago.
And yes...lurking behind the Springbank are 2 bottles of Buckfast Tonic Wine bought on impulse...I must have got a bit carried away?
Last October with a slightly different line up

The Ileach is good stuff, a bit young & rough around the edges but superb value for cask strength malt at 58% alc.
I wouldn't like to guess which distillery it comes from but it is quite heavy & rich in composition, it obviously opens up a bit with a little bit of water and drinking it neat tends to numb your tongue and gums anyway!
Overall thoroughly recommended, I've had 3 bottles of it and will buy more...sometimes you just cant justify buying Ardbeg Uigeadail every time you want to and the Ileach makes up for the disappointment to some degree.
I believe they have other releases too, but I've only ever had the full fat cask strength job.

It's a young lagavulin, and it's great.I wouldn't like to guess which distillery it comes from but it is quite heavy & rich in composition, it obviously opens up a bit with a little bit of water and drinking it neat tends to numb your tongue and gums anyway!

Was back in the UK for a few days, so picked some stuff up.
Tasted some Aultmore 21, Auchentoshan Blood Oak and Bowmore Black Rock (all travel retail). The Aultmore was classic sweet speyside and very nice (normally I prefer bigger flavours, but enjoyed it), the Auchentoshan was interesting to taste and I bought a bottle although perhaps not the most polished whisky, and I enjoyed the Black Rock (I found it perhaps a bit less peat to the smoke than a lot of Islays might normally have. That said, it's been a while since I have had any Bowmore). Lots of NAS travel retail exclusives these days. I'd say try and make use of their tasting to see if you think they're worth picking up. I tend to get something due to the cost of buying over here anyway. Perhaps I'd be less inclined with UK prices.
Also had some Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 4 a few days before, which is as you would expect it to be.
Brought these back with me.
As mentioned the Auchentoshan Blood Oak. Someone on here mentioned Eden Mill previously and since I was at a wedding in St Andrews thought I should try it. I got their Hogmany 2015 1 year old spirit and have tried it with a friend. Certainly a bit rough, but should be interesting when older. Normally I don't pick up on all the different things described, but to me there was certainly strong mango on the nose of this one. Bruichladdich Links St Andrews 14yo sample bottle provided at the wedding. Also got some Tomatin (14yo port finish) and Tomintoul samples to try. I suspect these may not be full enough in flavour for my taste, but interesting to see. Last is a 18yo Macallan from G&M. At only £60 thought it was a cheap way to test an older Macallan given the prices of the official bottles these days.
Plus a Glengoyne in the worlds smallest whisky bottle,

Any "travel retail exclusives" worth bothering with?
Guess that's a "no" then...Podie said:

Last time I went through I bought a bottle of Laphroaig Au Cuan Mor.It's sometimes available on MOM or TWE websites, but not often.
I think I paid about £68 for it.
It's a very nice derivative of Laphroaig, and in a 2 week holiday it was gone.
