Sound interesting.

I popped along to a new shop in Frankfurt today and had a little look around. Came out with a Kavalan Solist Port Pipe that is a Germany only bottling. Only 181 bottles available as well. Will be cracked open at the end of the month.

i just opened a "great drams" link to a story about these 2 just a few minutes before you posted that! They look v interesting. After reading raw spirit i think Glenfiddich may be far too often written off as mainstream or uninteresting. Think I'll be punting some money their way at some point soon.

I have a feeling IPA that will be quite nice, but some will say it's not proper whiskey.

I've Googled it, but can't find a place to buy.

ETA: sorry seen it on the Glenfiddich website.

Project XX has arrived.

It's nice, and very much the house style. Given its a NAS whisky, it's what you'd expect. All of the GF traits are amplified - although the pear notes you get in the 12 and 26 aren't as prominent as I would have expected.

It's a nice dram. Interested to see what Trophy has to say.

I'll put it on my list smile

On a different note, why are so many Whisky's now 40% vol? Am I a massive alky for wanting a bit more, 46% min?

My understanding is that it simplifies the tax/duty implications in various jurisdictions, ie you pay more (tax) for higher strength sprints in certain countries.

Oh, and if you like Arran, you should search out That Boutique-y Company's expression. Batch 2 if you can find it.

Collected my XX this afternoon, kicked down the house door just now and cracked open the bottle.

Christmas pudding straight away with cinnamon notes with a slight caramel taste to it. Quite a few spice notes there also...

Worth the £50 quid? I would say so!

Spent yesterday afternoon at the York Whisky Festival, where I finally proved I have learned from past Festival mis-adventures ! drink My annual mate - Dennis the ex-miner equally proved that he has learned (eight years ago I first encountered him at our first festival and he was asleep outside at 2pm - my misdemeanour was in my mothers bathroom - in my thirties !) Thanks to Glaves of Brompton for the usual huge Cornish Pasty that helped top up the equally huge bowl of porridge and fruit.

Only visited two stands in four hours, plus one Masterclass (Murray McDavid). Most of my time was spent at Boutique-y working through the full flight on offer. In the past I had a encountered a dram the same age as myself (Balvenie - 42 - in the warehouse - wow !!) but Boutique-y delivered a 52yo Girvan which was older than me. Also available was a 27yo Mortlach.
WOW - for such an age they both bounced around like a youngster.bounce Most of the rest on offer was also very good. Not cheap drams at £250+ each - but ..

Diageo - Benrinnes 21yo at a similar price - for me the wood had overtaken the sherry and the Boutique-y sherry monster at under £100 kicked it's .... The daily drinking Talisker's were great - and of course I steered clear of the Haig hurl

I was a little deflated by Murray McDavid - the ACE'ing going on. Interesting to see and listen to but for me I like the clean single cask approach offered by Boutique-y. When I'm next in Speyside I will certainly drop in at Coleburn - but the jury is still out.

Are you feeling ok?! biggrin

Just got back from Germany. Shared a Akashi blend from duty free with some friends which was enjoyable. I then visited a few whisky shops in Berlin. At the first (Wein und Whisky) the owner was one of those who does a lot of his selling based on what is best for the customer, rather than making the most money he can. They had a nice selection, but as seems to be the case the prices vary wildly from the UK - some bottles are twice the price, others are a bit cheaper. They had some Japanese whisky for rather reasonable amounts - relative to most places (when was the last time you saw Yamazaki 18 for around £240 for example?) but I went for a German release of a Macallan 25yo from 1988. Bourbon cask, so not the more sought after sherry bottles. After that I went to Finest Whisky. They had a lot more choice and a lot of interesting bottles, but generally a lot more "special" pricing too! Compared to the UK there wasn't too many things I'd have bought there due to the price, but I picked up a 17yo sherry single cask Glengoyne from 2010 which was pretty close to likely UK auction prices, if perhaps slightly cheaper.

ha well... definitely discovered cognac when in... cognac in august! Found a beautiful XO for me but this recent delivery was two v nice XOs, one for a mate's 40th and one for my Godson's 18th (in 17.5 years time). The sherry was for me... a VERY dry Oloroso which i thought I'd take a punt on... i have to say it is not what i expected at all! Almost salty, sour. Persevering with sherry though as i am sure there are some excellent ones out there, and above all they are pretty cheap so very possible to experiment without too much impact.
