in other news.... not going near that Ardbeg Kelpie... sounds a bit rank. I'd try it, but i am not buying.
HOWEVER.... who's had the communique about the new Ardbeg 21??? I will absolutely be chucking some coin at that.
Me too but £310 is a little more than I was expecting. HOWEVER.... who's had the communique about the new Ardbeg 21??? I will absolutely be chucking some coin at that.

Problem is, wait for the reviews and you'll have missed the chance to buy.
Thought I'd post a few things up from this year's Euro trip.
I had intended NOT to buy whisky this year (despite Krallicious joking about another whisky run!!), but great intentions lasted just a bit longer than it did to drive from Calais to Bruges. Apart from some quality beer, including Westvleteren 12, I also ended up picking up another bottle of this - the bottle I'd bought in February was getting low..
I'd hoped to pick up something from Bleue Maus in Germany, but sadly even the shop which seems to double as the local Post Office in Eggolsheim was closed. So after a Bond themed stop at the location for Casino Royale, we made it to Prague. I think I joked about the Top Gear challenge, but it reaaly was a case of find a Gold Cock in Prague which in this case was a 22yr old single malt, and a pretty nice one - Czech's seem to do good whisky..
Onto Vienna, and er, three more including two organic whiskies Brisky and Woazky (single malt/corn) and Peter Affenzeller Single Malt. The Woazky was a really nice surprise with the corn adding to the flavour (100ml 'samples' of that and Brisky were consumed).
After a trip via Hungary, Croatia, into Italy, the trip and into the Alps onto Switzerland was an opportunity to visit two pretty unusual distilleries that couldn't be anymore different - Puni in the Italian Alps, and then Telser in Liechtenstein. Puni is a VERY modern purpose-built distillery, who only turned out their first whisky last year, and apparently store the filled casks in a WW2 bunker..
Puni distillery:
The following day was Telser, which took a bit of effort to find as its a barn attached to the side of a house in a small town, and I drove past it at least twice!! They have been distilling for generations, but started doing whisky a about ten years ago and now do rum and vodka. The distillery is operated by a father and son - Dad is in his 70's and doesn't speak English (my German is ropey, and I wouldn't have had a hope with the dialect), so they had to get a neighbour to translate. They are also still using the wood-fired stills shown in the photo. Lovely place and ended up having a chat and a dram at their bar!!
Telser:
So two distilleries, two days and two very different looking bottles of single malt:
Puni Alba - marsala wine and Islay cask finish, with a nice hint of smoke
Telser Edition IX - 7yr Pinot wine cask
With the stop in Zurich, a couple more purchases were inevitable and took the form of two different Santis bottlings from Glen Fahrn (a regular stop), Alpstein X and Sigel. Alpstein X is the latest in an annual series, this time sherry cask, and Sigel is one of their standard editions aged in small beer casks.
So the rest..

I am thinking of adding something with a heavy sherry finish. I normally have an Aberlour A'Bunadh on the go, but anything else to recommend? Budget up to £80 say?
I hate to be repetitive anytime someone asks about sherried whiskies, but Glendronach would be the one to try if you want to have something different than Glenfarclas or Aberlour. Glengoyne is also sherried, but not as heavy. The Kavalan Solist is a bit too expensive for your budget if you want to try a "sherry bomb".autofocus said:
Hi there,
What did you think of Puni Whisky ?
I have recently been sent some samples and thought it was superb.
Love the look of their distillery, very modern.
Regards
Tim
For young whisky, I though both Nova and Alba were both very good (up there with the new Scottish distilleries), and look forward to seeing how how they improve in older releases. What did you think of Puni Whisky ?

If anything I preferred the Alba, as it had less of a spirit kick than the Nova - the Islay finish and wine casks are a good combination.

My wife is coming back through there tomorrow evening and has asked if I want anything. There are loads of bottles that I'd like but not knowing what the prices are like I don't just want to give her a list of potentials to look out for. Thanks.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking really. I've given her a couple of things to look out for if she has time to kill but I'm not up to date with what (if any) travel exclusives are currently out.
Yes - most standard stuff is cheaper to buy online, so it's only any travel exclusive stuff, which tends to be mostly NAS "special" releases, or much more expensive things.Seems like there is 670 bottles available for Sweden of the Ardbeg 21. In reality that is shared with Norway as we don't actually get committee releases here, so you buy and collect in Sweden if you want one. They go on sale on the 22nd, so might try and pick one up.
