Just tasted my favourite ever. A 19 year old cask strength Strathisla. Smelled like honey and evaporated in the mouth. Lovely
If you ever get the chance to try some older bottlings then do it. I was lucky enough to try bottlings that were distilled in the late 60s and late 70s. It was like drinking nectar.
The Lagavuglin 8 is really quite nice. I found it combined the best parts of the 12 and 16s. Smooth but with a peppery/iodine edge if that makes sense. Well worth trying IMO.
The show was interesting and it's a multi-parter. Great advert for Springbank and it was interesting to see the work that goes into a blend.

A few more for the collection that I unpacked while visiting in June.
Both Glenglassaughs disappeared very quickly.
NRS - a 40 yo for your 29th? I only received a 30yo for my 30th
Whisky tasting in the evening, everyone came with a bottle- no prizes for guessing which one was mine.
However the 8yr old Lagavulin was sampled - its very good indeed. I'm not a fan of Islay and would much rather a sherrybomb - however I can see a place for this dram on my shelf.
The line-up in the order they were tasted, from the right back to the left - some really rather good some not so...

Looking for a bit of advice. I've been a bourbon drinker for years but I'm trying to expand my taste in scotch. I've only tried a few so far.
Jura Origin - I thought was ok
Glenmorangie 10 yo - I liked it apart from the quite aniseedy aftertaste.
Old Pulteney 12 yo - This has been my favourite so far.
Monkey's Shoulder - perfectly drinkable but didn't leave much of an impression.
Anybody got any recommendations? I've been keeping to younger ones as they seem to be a bit sweeter.

Old Pulteney is one of my favourites too. As is Highland Park, so give that a try. Honey, a little smoke and a little salty. Jura Origin - I thought was ok

Try a bourbon cask finished BenRiach, perhaps an Aberlour (as mentioned above) and a Balvenie Doublewood.Jura Origin - I thought was ok

It's probably worth trying something smokey if you haven't tried them - although it sounds like you might not like them if you weren't the biggest fan of Jura. Perhaps Laphroaig and Ardbeg may bit a bit much at the start, but perhaps go for a Talisker or Lagavulin? Smoky whiskies tend to be like marmite - you love or hate them. It would also be worth trying something with sherry - a Glendronach, Aberlour or some of the Macallans might be a good option to try for those.
Thanks guys, I've put Highland Park and Aberlour on my list just now. My sister got me a miniature of something that had been sherry casked as someone at a whisky shop had recommended it for a bourbon drinker. I can't remember the name of it but I didn't like it, it tasted too artificially sweet. I'm not sure if that's indicitive of all sherry casked whiskies though.

My absolute favourite. I have one in my stash that I've been reluctant to open in case I can't replace it (that's some weird logic...), but a quick google shows it's readily available on Amazon for £47.50. Doh. It was this...

Looking at the image a post or two back , has anyone yet tried the Lagavulin 8?
Bought a bottle at Stansted a month ago and had it on my hols. A bit of a disappointment really, nowhere near as nice as the 16, a little on the burny side too. Wouldn't really bother to be fair.Still have a bottle of the 12 un-opened from last November.
