Anyone tried the Kavalan Sherry Oak?
Starting to look at Christmas stuff and had planned to grab a Yamazaki 18 but the entire country seems to have been pillaged!
Kavalan seem to have been getting praised quite a lot in the recent years and I love a sherry cask so thought potentially worth a go!
If it's within your budget, I highly recommend this - https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/18121/kavalan-...
yes

That's a stunner.
Agreed!

It's been a long day. I'm not expecting to see any of these survive the night.

So what was your favourite of those three?
I'm an Aberlour man really but I prefer the 12 to the 10 if we're talking the cheapies.

I'll give Xura top spot in this little taste test, followed by Aberlour. The Glenlivet was a distant 3rd I'm afraid.

Id agree with that, a 12yo Aberlour might have switched the first two though.

Not tried too many Glenlivets, certainly not the expensive ones, but the 'supping' end of the range is poor IMHO. Hate to say it but to my tastes any of the Lidl whiskies are better, including their blends.

Thinking of adding the Glenmorangie Lasanta and Quinta Ruban to Xmas list for peeps to buy me, they read well. Anyone tried them here?

The 15 - it's gone EOL, so get it while you can.

Having originally tasted both side by side it was an easy decision to buy the 15.
BUT - some time later I went to the distillery and they recommended adding the tiniest bit of water to the 18 - they were right !

I completely forgot, I got a sample bottle of both when up at Loch Fyne back in August, so currently sampling both side by side before I make a purchase tomorrow.

It presumably should be available again next year as they will then be back to having 15yo stock after the distillery closure. It's interesting though related to the discussion of what is best - it's widely viewed that the 15yo was the best balance in the range before it vanished, but depending on which year it was bought the 15yo (as well as the 12yo) would actually have been the same age as the 18yo - so I am not sure what would then be resulting in the difference. I still have a bottle of the 15yo, so it could be interesting to compare to the new one when it starts again.

It's not too hard to find the 15, but it's over twice the price of the 18.

The old 15 was a bit special - have a read here - http://maltandoak.com/glendronach-15-is-it-the-bes...
